2 stroke Dualsport ? - Page 3

Thank you for posting the thread. I looked at it and i dont think i have much of a shot here in SC, the guy i got it from didnt have the title for it so i am pretty dead in the water. I guess it will be used as my woods bike.

I owned this KTM 550 that I would have loved to dualsport if I could get a plate for it. It just would have needed lights and a larger tank. I'm sure it would have gotten me into a lot of trouble, it was just that kind of bike!

why yes actually it is, the Ktm seem to have everything on the wrong side. pipe, chain, carb, ect.

I have some experience with a kx500 that i'd rather forget.

That Kx500 is actually a KX550

And currently geared for 120mph...

Yep, everything's backwards. Nothing like left-kicking a high compression 550cc 2 stroke! Once it was started, it was well worth it though. Mine was breathed on a bit by a talented engine builder and put out around 75 hp. The 550 engine was designed for sidecar racing in Europe and was a beast. Stock versus stock, it was quite a bit more powerful than both the KX and CR500's.

A friend of mine built an incredible road race bike consisting of a built 550 engine in a Honda NSR250 frame. It was geared high and would top out between 140 and 145 mph on long straights. It was a blast to ride! Durable too - the thing lasted him seven race seasons without a top end job. Let me see if can dig up a few photos of that one....

What year is that bike? by the looks of the tank plastic it looks to be a 2008 or newer?

Assuming you meant one of the KTM 550's I posted:

Mine, the dirt bike, was a 1994. I swapped out the front end for a Honda CRF Showa unit and grafted some 2008 plastics onto it.

The road bike was a 1989 Honda NSR250 chassis with more modern bodywork from Tyga Performance.

It all depends on how much street you'll ride.
The exc is a factory "dual sport" with a stator that'll power and light connections.
I have my '08 300exc plated, in Costa Rica. I run 13/50 because I like dirt more than street, but it'll do 50-60

I use mine for dual sport riding. I don't have any recent pictures. There is lots of fun to be had. Would a 450exc be better as an all rounder, probably but I don't mind the trade offs.

I have a 99 KTM 300exc. Its plated and I love it. For short street/dualsporting its not too bad. I generally just use it for offroading though. However now that my DR650 is tied up with sidecar duty the smoker might end up doing a bit more true dualsport riding.
