X grip?
^^^ Does that X-grip work out for dirt riding? I use one on my Vstrom, but I've not dared hammer through the whoops with it!
Tech support! I cached OSM to my sd card, but I can't figure out how to get the topos. I actually already have topo's for Backcountry Navigator Pro. Can I use those?

I gotta say, ever since you fixed the google terrain maps, I have been loving this. Before it was a good substitute for my GPS--more or less the same. Now, with the google terrain maps, it is SOOO much better than my gps. Love it.
Keep up the good work. |

I guess that depends on your type of dirt riding. I have no problem with the fairly light trail riding I do on my KLR, but if you're jumping your WR450 like Travis Pastrana you could always throw a rubber band on it for extra security.

I've been using the x-grip for a couple thousand miles now, both on and off road and my phone has never even slipped. I am quite happy with it.
But I ain't Travis Pastrana, either! :) Sent from my Samsung Note 2 |

I want to change view to satellite image, and then cache that satellite image for an area I have tracks in. I know how to cache an area in just regular view, but I am lost on the satellite part? I am using a google nexus 7. Do I do it from a pc on google earth then email it to myself? Do it in google earth app on the tablet, or does dsm app have a 'switch to satellite view' that I am just too stupid to find?
Downloaded it yesterday, really think this is gonna be a great tool once I get the hang of it. |

It's not about that. It's more about they fact that this was a colossal effort which costs me more than it brings in every month BEFORE you factor in my time. If I thought iOS would deliver me 10 times the revenue I'd consider it a worthwhile time sink, but I doubt it does more than double it. Even if time were free, doubling my revenue would still be a loser for me. The app sells about 32 copies a month, it has since the first month. I get $14 a copy. The website costs more than that.

Have you thought about doing a Kickstarter for doing an iOS version?
Just a thought, I know this more a "labor of love" project than any kind of revenue stream. I continue to be impressed with the version I have been using on my Android. But I jut got an iPhone and it would be cool to have it there too. Thanks again for all of your hard work!

If I thought I could raise $100K on Kickstarter, I would do it, but I don't. Clearly the software isn't worth $100K or I would have earned that much in sales from the Android store. This may sound like a lot, but trust me that would be a discount. If you wanted to pay someone to develop the app and website for you it would cost a hell of a lot more than that. These are non trivial tools and this shit costs money. I think while it's awesome it also is just too small a market OR to small a marketing budget to turn it into a business. I didn't get into this to be a business anyway. In fact, I never actually planned to release the app. Some fellow ADVers insisted when I showed them the app at our regular burger and beer meetup. |
