Good point, those aero power ratings are at around 20k feet. There was a tank/torpedo boat version of the merlin that made around 700hp but I don't remember the weight.

I guess we are getting off topic, but how much power would the merlin make on 91 octane nolead? The original merlin made about 1050hp on 100 octane ethyl (IIRC).

I love old Aero engines! They are like 2000hp swiss watches.

The Motus is vaporware, the only bikes that'll ever be built are the prototypes. Its the same old story thats happened a million times before

I do hope they at least sell/share the engine tech tho

They are having a bit of trouble with the red tape and government regs. I wouldn't be putting any money down on that bet.

I hope they get it sorted as I am (for the most part) against having to meet the vast majority of useless government regs.

Just a bunch of unnecessary crap dreamt up by ignorant public employees in an attempt to try to justify their pay check.

If you are pissed about the MSRP on the Motus Gov. Red tape is the reason above all else.

Here's a link to the EPAs page on certification of new on-highway motorcycles. Go to the .pdf at the bottom for a 22 page brief on the certification steps for a little light reading.

On a quick look at the certification test data for 2013 (Nov2012 data), there is no evidence of 'Motus' being listed as a certified mfg or any other engine that might possibly be the 1600cc V4. Could be that Motus has the paperwork submitted but not in time for it to be published?

I believe US Highland ran into the same roadblocks trying to get their motor certified. They were behind schedule and taking heat for it also. The tragic death of their CEO and chief engineer rendered it all moot, unfortunately.

You should do more research. The biz model of EH is nothing like Motus. EH had to have major sales to keep the massive infrastructure afloat. Motus doesn't have that problem.

EH built less than 2k bikes, not all have yet sold.
