Sticky Throttle Grip

On an 06 1200gs i,m experiencing a sticky throttle grip which seems to swell when heat is on high , these are stock grips; just wondering if there is a quick fix to avoid regripping?

Do you have a throttle lock ? Move the switch/throttle housing to the left on the bar. As the grip heats, it expands and gets pinched between the bar end/throttle lock and the throttle tube end, inside the switch housing. You need to give it a little free play, side to side. If you have a throttle lock with shims, just remove a shim and retest. Ahh!

There are two ways to go about it. You can use a fender washer between the bar end and the bar, needs to be the right size. Or, you can loosen the switch cluster and bump it over a bit to add clearance.

The problem is that age causes the grips to swell a bit, then heat a bit more. This removes the normal gap and makes the throttle tight with the grip heater on.

well I've had another quick look at it this am after receiving your thoughts on this and it appears to have good clearance between the grip(no throttle lock in play here)and the cable housing but yes there may be insufficient play at the bar end between the grip and the bark buster(again factory installed). I will play around with this clearance and report back. Thanks for your thoughts so far gents!!
