The other thing is that the majority of riders don't actually ride that far. Just look at how many bikes on this "adventure" forum are sold inteh flea market with < than 10k miles.

grr. the clutch on my new-to-me k1200rs has started slipping. some oily residue buildup on the right side where the engine and transmission bolt together. I guess I'll tear it apart and see what she needs for christmas.

'Cause they're designed into the FJR, but bolted onto the Bandit.

Yeah, they should stop the rider dead in his tracks and make him take the steps down to the lower level!

Question

Hey guys, looking for some solid ideas for music and gps guidance and I've got a long trip coming up. Currently, I have the Scala Rider G4. Battery lasts about an hour and a half listening to music. Currently, one headset is being replaced, now, since a speaker quit. I have two units, and could keep charging and swapping out. This costs nothing to change.

Bluetooth is fine, but I want to be able to hear music for 12 hours. Does this unit really exist?

My other consideration is a Shark set-up. Hide the amp and speakers somewhere in the fairing. Then, there is no headset to deal with.

With either set-up, there will always be wind noise.

My other option is an ear buds of sort. I have to use ear plugs riding, and get them deep into the ear canal before I feel like they are effective. So, there is no shortage of "high-end" ear buds - Sennheiser, Klipsch, etc. Is there a set that are low profile and that will significantly reduce wind noise because of a superior seal? Does noise cancelling really work? Guess I could always use tape over the ear after the buds are in, but not thrilled about that.

Thanks in advance.

I've used the Sena SMH10 and really liked it. I got an entire day of use out of it.

zx11?

Anyone use older powerhouse bikes like the zx11 or zx12r for sport-touring?

To define a sport touring bike In my opinion you can't really go by what motorcycles companies are willing to label a sport touring bike. This is an industry which calls motorcycles which have zero off road capacity "adventure" bikes, where a company can change the name of a bike from 650 GS to 700 GS and not change the capacity of the engine, and where a whole section of the population thinks Harley sells sporty bikes because they have a line of bikes they call "sportsters".

In my opinion, a sport touring bike is a bike with an aggressive riding position (usually having clip ons) and with a re-enforced frame which is designed to carry luggage and a passenger. Weight doesn't really matter IMO. Perennial sport tourers are bikes like the K1300S, Kawasaki Concours, FJR, ST1300, VFR800 6th Gen, etc.

Then again I think most of the debate over the definition of what the bike is in this thread would be time better spent riding

I had a set of custom ear molds made that accept my Etymotic ER6i earphones. They will accept other brand earphones as well. No fiddling with getting these babies in there just right, there is only one way, and it is just right. Excellent isolation from wind noise, They won't pull out when you're putting on your helmet, and they stay comfortable all day. Quality of the sound depends on how you equip them. I'm very happy with mine.
