klatelm makes an interesting observation all of these guys above have in the past either won or competed at the top echelon in DAKAR, other major international cross country rallies or ISDE/Enduro competition
as pro or factory supported riders. Even RG (who did some mx as a kid I understand) has chosen ex-bike/baja racers as his Dakar navigator on repeated occassions; Kellon, Andy Grider, Johnny Campbell.

An interesting observation... I've often wondered how Von Zitz and Picard would have gone as drivers...?

Vision

I suspect the reason for seeing so many motorcycle jocks in the vehicles has to do with "track vision". Those of you who race, or have raced bikes, know that the key to winning is the ability to avoid problems created by the track. That kind of vision comes from experience and those who have raced cross country/enduro/motocross have a well developed sense of where unseen problems are.

I am enjoying this thread quite a bit. My days in the woods with a rally car go back to the era of Satch Carlson and NO, there were no young girls used or abused.

I like Robby. He damn well knows how to drive as well as anyone. But he lacks the halter on his emotions and brain me thinks.

Ok, this thread will continue with the King of the Hammers competition!!

Is RG slated to run KOH ?

He can really shoot for the podium. He would have this year if he hadn't rolled it.

Hope he makes true on his promise to return

So Robby comes across a bit more brash than others. Peterhansel calls him a cheater, and Gordon says Mini's are for girls. I vastly prefer Gordon's impulsive comments to the smug superiority of Miller and Peterhansel. I didn't dislike Peterhansel before, and I liked Miller, but I've lost some respect for both of them. I have no doubt Gordon has his flaws and worse moments, but I've seen so many good moments from him I find myself liking him more and more.

Well, if I take my own point, I'd have to admit I shouldn't be judging Peterhansel and Miller by what I see as some of their worst moments. Still, a lot of criticism of RG doesn't seem reasonable.

Strong Bad, I'm sure you have your reasons for not liking the guy. I'm just saying . . .

I only really watch the dakar bikes... with the exception being Robby of course. If there other car drivers were there or not I wouldn't care... just let Robby drive around by himself as he entertaining and seems like a crowd pleaser!!
