This is one that suprised me. I mean it was super clean, mint. But it was quite a bit modified from stock, which normally will attract lower bids at an auction like this. As this one sold, I automatically started reminding myself of the perfectly stock ones I know of around my town.

My buddy picked up an ex-military Indian Scout owned at one time by Steve McQueen. I never knew that Indian painted some of their WWII bikes in gloss olive drab (parade duty?) and the others in flat olive drab. Also snagged a mint Triumph Silver Jubilee with under 3,000 original miles. The 10 to 15% fees going to the auction houses can really add to the bottom line on some of these acquisitions. The 1939 BMW Kompressor that sold for $480,000.00 in the parking lot saved a ton of fees.

maybe it did maybe it didn't. if the new owner doubles his money on it via ebay or another auction then maybe showing up at a high end auction and selling in the parking lot to avoid the commission won't have been such a good idea.

That XS650 street tracker that brought 18000.00? Built right here in Chico........
For about 30,000.00 build cost including labor.

from what I heard on the 480k bmw....
sold to a collector with a small museum near soladas? california. guy made his $ as an inventor. anyhow, it didnt meet the reserve during auction for 400k. (I bid it up to 390k, but wasnt going any higher )bonhams has it listed as sold for 480. so Im sure they got their fees, maybe not the rediculous 18% or whatever it was, but they got something. even at 10% from each end, thats 80k, a very healthy payday. the buyer probably wont even ride it.

Flug -the reason the z-1 went for so little is the paint was incorrect but more importantly there was no serial # on the frame....

Good eye! I could tell the paint was off, but the serial # issues, yeah that'll change the price. Somebody told me today that the works BMW Kompressor at Bonhams may not have exact provenance ,,,,that the engine is a Kompressor, but the frame was of 1951 vintage.

yep, thats the one. Ive been watching it, it got bid up to 6500 in vegas, reserve at 9k. Its got some minor issues that I saw, nothing I couldnt fix, but I didnt want to spend that much for a project.
Looks like its goin good on ebay, may meet reserve this time. if not, I'll send em an offer maybe :)
