I was going to get a new GSA next spring to replace my 2005 1200GS, but my dealer made me an offer I couldn't refuse on a fully loaded triple black GSA. It saved me £1600 on list price or about $2560, which was a very good incentive indeed. I just need to sell my '05 now

Having seen the specs of the new 1200 it should be nicely sorted by the time I come to replace my new GSA in about 2017.

Saw the watercooled bike today at the NYC motorcycle show and it is sweet. Its is slim at the waist making it more dirtbike like—a good thing. I was never into that into 1100/1150/1200 oilheads, but they really did a good job with the sleek design and tech of this new waterhead 1200 bike. Haven't been this excited about a bike since the KTM990 Adv back in '07. .

Stick to the oil cooled one, when Porsche did their first foray in to H2O cooling it was somewhat of a disaster.

Plus, the new water cooled bike looks like

And I'm sure the BMW engineer geeks did not even think to look at Porsche and the mistakes they made during their leap into water cooled engines.

Ahhh, the looks will grow on you. Besides, when you're riding a bike, you can't really see much of it...its just everyone else that has to put up with it...

I agree it's much better looking in person. I wasn't that wild about the design in the photos to date but after seeing it in the flesh I could easily transition to it (after I've worn my existing bike out a bit more.)

Maybe so, but if you look at all of the Porsche race cars, they regress back to more oil cooling. Plus the last of the oil cooled 911's are still considered the most collectible as they were the pinnacle of the development. None of these companies are going to H20 cooling for better performance, it's all about emissions.

I get what you're saying. I would still think that water-cooling an engine is still by far the most efficient way to keep emissions down and hold the engine at an optimal temperature to produce the most power.

But, hey, I'm an IT guy, not a mechanical engineer designing engines...Dad always said, " Son, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit." I can't even come up with enough bullshit in this case........and I'm a "Consultant", or so my job title tells me. I think my job description says somwhere that if I can't fix the problem, there's good money to be made prolonging it.
