Doug, heard a rumor you might be coming over for the D100?

That was potentially in the works but as of yesterday my short-term direction has changed. Got an opportunity for a new job that is too good to pass up. Bad thing is I won't have much time for racing for a while, good thing is after a couple years if we are successful I will have a lot more time.

So, hopefully in a couple years I will come visit all you guys in the northwest and do some riding with you

Being a grown-up is overrated

Doug congrats on your new job opportunities...but too bad on not coming out for the D100 or M1K! Luke and I were looking forward to regaling you with 6 hours of bench racing while we had you stuck in the van en route to the D100

On the build front...waiting for some parts to be delivered. We should have a big push coming up...I'm still not 100% sure on paint and any body modifications, but its all coming together. I've got some interior gutting to do to make room for the rest of the cage. Been trying to clean out the garage a bit so I can fit the car back inside!

I'm going to run over to Prevailing Communications and talk to Tim about when he might be able to install the race radio and other electronic switch's and relocate the battery to behind the seats...thinking about adding a second battery as well. Other stuff to do inside: Main power switch, mounts for GPS, gauges and other doo-dads. Then we need to figure out what we will be carrying for spares and tools in the car and what will go in any chase trucks.

I have been looking into battery Impact drivers to have on board for lug nuts and strut removal and such. Not too cheap, but Ray just bought a Rigid 18V lithium kit and he offered to let me try it out..maybe I can convince him to loan it for the race if it works out good...I've seen the Baja 1K guys using the Rigid and it seems to work.

Been watching Dakar coverage and drooling over the cars

Also, Ray found a nice gouge in the sidewall of one of the rear tires....damn!

The saga continues.....

Let's pencil that into the schedule for 2015 my dream is to be semi-retired by then.

Paul, here is me and my 1997 Outback many years ago.

I got it stuck in a huge mud pit in the Adirondacks, and got pulled out by a 2WD pickup. Mud was literally 2mm from pouring in the door sills. You can see the high-water mark in the photo. I never got all the mud off, which was a problem a year later when I pulled the motor to do headgaskets. Sand was just everywhere you could imagine. Pretty funny.

I loved driving it around looking like this... This was one of my favorite cars I have ever owned, but the 4EAT started giving me problems around 120k. I used to put almost 1k miles on this car a week between college, work, and whitewater kayaking.

The mail brought some goodies today:

I am anxious to mount these wheel spacers up and see if they are going to work for us.

However, it looks as though I tomorrow I'll be heading over to LC Garage to help fellow Outta Sight Racing teammate Luke on his 2013 M1K entry....the CB Desert Sled!

I've been wanting to go up there for awhile, so this is going to be good!

Are you concerned that these spacers don't pilot the wheels via the hub?

That's not the idea I had of a vintage racer. WOW!

Think he's talking about the difference between hub-centric and lug-centric stuff.

Oh, Ok. Thanks for the translation. The answer is no.

This topic has been discussed ad nauseam on internet forums. I'm not saying things won't break while I am beating the piss out of this car...but if I do my part right and install them correctly, then no, I am not concerned.

Might not be a bad idea to replace the wheel studs with new ones before you install the spacers. Yeah, more work but having a wheel problem in the middle of the desert can make for a very bad day.... you know that I have first hand experience with this
