He's a true racer, he'll get in anything and drive it full-throttle, compared to some of these car guys who are so serious and only care about this one race every year, strategizing... talented, sure but so boring to watch.

My introduction to RG was in Dust to Glory in which he played the part of the A-Hole trophy truck driver, but his performances and antics in the Dakar these past few years have made me a big fan. Bring on the KOH

There are two guys racing today that take me back many years. Tony Stewart reminds me of A. J Foyt.
Robby Gordon reminds me of Parnelli Jones. Not only in their driving style, but, their personalities.

Slow poison

I remember reading an oldish Dakar report by Ron Ayers (I think) in which he described Peterhansel as "slow poison" when he was still on bikes. Talent and navigational instincts aside, he'd nibble away at any deficit and consolidate or defend his lead. It was (and still is) a devastating strategy. That is what Gordon has to beat.

I didn't put this RG compilation together, I just ran across it. It's footage from last year, but it's good stuff.

I'm a big fan of Gordon's driving spirit/skills and American bad a$$ attitude. But just look at the standings in the last decade. How often has a 2 wheel drive won Dakar? Heck, just look at the top 5 of this year or even Robbie's standings. If he wants to win, he needs to drive a 4 wheel driver period.

Without the roll he'd have been on the podium. I think the buggy has merits.
