But seriously, that sounds like a pretty close encounter. Probably a moose, 'cause all the bears ought to be hibernating. BUT they ( the bears) will often burrow in the root structure of a tree. Close call. Glad you are OK. DICK

My son and I wore neoprene chest waders when we crossed Jim Creek on our KLR's. Haven't ever worn them on the road though.

Alcan Rider hands down some valuable information, I have been going over that road since 1950 and he' got it locked down for giving good practical advise from bears to bikes . Go for it !!!!!

Be careful wearing chest waders. Fall off bike, fill up waders, get weighted down and swept away. I'd rather get wet and suck it up a little.
