![]() In Mozambique the rainy season is starting now. The road from Mueda to the Unity 1 bridge was a real challenge. But that for I’m using Pirelli Scorpion Rally and not one of the so called offroad tyres. ![]() ![]() |

By now, you should probably know how well the 1190 holds together when she's dropped...?
Great Pics, Joe! |

After a few days on Sanzibar
![]() ![]() I’m back on road again and found some nice tracks in Tansania. ![]() ![]() In the last 2 and 1/2 month I’ve been riding 12.000 km, and the new 1190 Adventure is running without problems. Only the handlebar should be a bit higher, which I’ll change at the next pitstop in Nairobi. Jambo from Kenia Joe |

After more than 12,000 Kilometers through Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique, the 1190 KTM Adventure R is now parked in Nairobi for the next 8 weeks, before heading to Madagascar.
![]() And it's time to get the interim results. ,, You are totally crazy! To drive with a newly developed motorcycle through Africa. Completely alone and half the distance to Renate on pillion'' That was the statement of all my friends. But my confidence in the guys from Mattighofen is limitless ;-). Although I was first skeptical myself, when Alois explained me the new adventure at the factory. TRC and ABS were foreign words for me. Just 300 Kilometers I was riding in Austria before going to Africa. Then, the first few kilometers in Ethiopia, in heavy city traffic in Addis Ababa. The turn signals and the horn does not work and the brakes just also only works after several pumps, I think to myself, 'What is this shit, how can I ride with this bike in Africa'' After arriving at the Lido Hotel, I'll get out immediately for troubleshooting. At the airport I had assembled the multi-function switch wrong, and through the air transport somehow come air into the brake system. That means I had to assemble the switch properly and get the air out of the brakes system From now on, apart from the broken screws at the baggage system, no more problems. Just an absolutely great trip. And now we celebrate the end of the first stage. Thank you Shlomi for the best BBQ food we had the last 3 month, have fun with your 1190 R, and thank you Kartik, for the wonderful Shiraz. |

I assume bigger versions of some of your / Renate's pics will make it into the KTM marketing catalogues?

Joe
Great to hear the trip has been pretty trouble free. Can you explain the problem with the baggage system screws ? I took a close look a the pannier rails on the R a few days ago and am not 100% convinced about how strong it will be ....................

The adventure continues!
In Nairobi Kenya, the 1190 KTM Adventure R gets packed, and is now on the way to Madagascar.
![]() ![]() If there aren’t too big problems with the custom in Antananarivio, I’ll be on the road again on the 7th of May. Joe |

On the road again in Antananarivio!
Paolo from the motorstore in Tana helped me with the paperwork to get the insurance. And Francois, he is an expert in off road riding on Madagascar, gave me a lot of useful tips. http://www.motostore.mg/
