Poolman: the ride was great regardless of the weather.
So that's the old City Hall Building, what's in it now?

It was originally a bank before the Great Depression, then became Poolesville Town Hall. I believe it is now vacant because Town Hall had to become ADA compliant, and it was cheaper to move to a new location than to update the building! So much for history...

Thanks for the pictures from Harper's Ferry. It brought back a flood of memories for me when I used to roadrace at Summit Point Raceway (about 15 miles from Harper's Ferry). If it is still there, the Hilltop House in Harper's Ferry is a great place for breakfast!

Hilltop House has been closed for a number of years and is in disrepair.
http://www.herald-mail.com/news/tris...,4692407.story I think it was tagged in one of the local TOR games and it was reported that there were holes in the roof. This photo shows some damage to front. Most of the porch roof is gone and there is other damage in the center. ![]() Here's what it looked like before closing.

We dined at Hilltop House a few years ago. I guess it closed soon after. (Not guilty of doing anything there that would have hastened its closing)

Harpers Ferry
I was at the Hilltop House in September. It must have been an amazing place in its glory days. Now it is defunct and deteriorating:
![]() Beautiful riding destination though: ![]() With a nice overlook of the Potomac River: ![]() Please excuse the crappy cell phone pics... |

I've enjoyed following this thread. I'm new to the area (last September) and due to a newborn I wasn't able to get out and explore much in the fall. Anxiously awaiting for spring so I can get out and explore these places. I agree that Harpers Ferry is a great place to visit. Here's a pic from last October.

Welcome JHaun! Thanks for following along! Once the weather warms up a bit more, I'm planning on heading into Harper's Ferry for a visit. I'll let you know if you want to come along.

I took a picture there this past fall.
![]() Nice riding out in that area. Can't wait for this weather to leave so I can get back out there!

That's a great building! I've passed by it a couple of times but never stopped to explore.
I cannot wait till the weather warms up more, it feels like I haven't ridden in ages.

New to the ADV world
Great thread and pics! I live in Alexandria, am new to the region (1.5 years), and new to the adv riding world, so this is great. I have been exploring the area on my VROD for the past year and a half and just added a GS to the mix last September. A friend of mine (also an inmate) and I try to go riding/camping at least a couple weekends a month throughout the spring/summer/fall, so let us know if you want to get a group ride together. We also try to hit most of the BMW and adv rallies in the area so we may run into you guys there too. I definitely want to start getting more off-road experience so any advice on how/where to get started around here would be much appreciated! I've heard that Morton's puts on a brief dirt course? Look forward to reading more, thanks!

We should all plan to meet when we can reasonably count on the weather for a ride, lunch, or whatever excuse it takes for a bunch of riders to get together. PS Cheers to macorell24 for starting this great thread!
