you don't have any popping or missing do you? sound's like a possible vacume leak that would cause a lean condition.

Yeah, good thinking. I'll spray some ether around the inlet manifold and see if I get a change in the idle.

You have a cold start botton on the trottle body.
Pull it out and it will fire upp.
Then let it idle couple sec then push it in.
Its the same bottom that you adjust idle on.

Hmm, I've had no joy.

No inlet leaks and the cold start button made no difference, I maybe in for a trip to the stealer

If i have a gear in it is almost impossible to make it start. the clutch is draging until it gets warm.
If i in hurry and putt a gear in to fast after start it stalls.

I allways start it in neutral.

Before I got my FR the dealer cleaned the injectors, because the bike had been left standing for a few months. I allways use the highest octane fuel (less alcohol) to prevent clogging of the injectors. Maybe you could try fresh fuel with an additive to clean the injection system. I hope starting improves.

thanks for the advice, it's only had 5 tanks of fuel through it so far, it was full of an unknown fuel when I picked it up from the dealer. and I have only run it on Shell V-Power.

I spoke to the dealer mechanic and he said hard starting is a symptom of off-spec valve clearances.
So I checked them, 1 was in the middle of spec and the other 3 were on the tight limit of spec, so I subtracted .05mm from each of those valves.

all of which made no difference to the difficulty in starting, I am of the belief that it is ,as you say a fueling issue, it feels lean to me.

Do you remowed the pre filter?
Mine was hard to start when i remowed it.

yes I did, did you put yours back on ?

Yes, I did fit a new prefilter.

Yes i did.
Then its start to behave better.
Freeride is runing very lean when you mess with air.
You can remove the filter if you remap
