Michael. The nephews and I will be taking our big bikes (KTM 950's and a slowoldguy on a GS Adv) down south of Cd Victoria in February to ride some twisties and class 1 and 2 dirt around the Cd Mante, Xilitla, and Jalpan area. Hoping to get to the Barranca Tolantongo.
Gathering up resources and will be glad to share what we find with you. General consensus on here seems to be that Bicimapas is better than Garmin but for dirt roads the Cartographia E32 downloads might be the best. I bought the latest Guia Rojii atlas (2013) but as far as state maps go, they don't seem to have updated them in a while. My plan now is to use the Guia Rojii city to city and the INEGI topo maps and the E32 gps maps for the dirt roads. We wanted to do CC but the road condition down to Batopilas and the unpredictable weather in Creel made us think further south.

Great Read
Well JohhnyD, thanks for the pointer to your report. Very enjoyable read. My head's swimming with all the different references to different roads and towns... working on clarity right now.

Weather?
Not sure what snow today means for mid-February...
![]() Think it might be worth finding a source of current weather when a ride is imminent. |

I used this site for whenever I go to Mexico or Baja, since it seem to be very accurate and good for my needs. For road conditions it is a crap shoot. Give it a tryand see if you like it.

Copper Canyon March
Am planning a ride to Copper Canyon about March 22 or 23 from El Paso. We usually cross at Santa Theresa (exit 8 on I10 in Texas). It takes me 7 hours or 9 hours to reach Creel (420 miles) depending on my route. There will be a couple local riders and a friend from Anchorage. If you want to join us, pm or call for more details 915 588 5054.
All the paperwork for Mexico can be done at Santa Theresa. Tury, give me a call. |

Thank you for your offer! I understand you and Arkansas Bob have already spoken. We're not planning to stay the night in Chihuahua City, rather go on to Creel. But it would be great to meet you and have a cafecito and hear some of your wisdom re the roads down from Creel. All the best, Mike (713) 870-8130 |

Creel to Batopilas via Urique
Me and a friend were in Copper Canyon First week of January. We had planned on riding from Creel to Urique and then on to Batopilas. It would have been a great route other than when we got to the river crossing 10km south of Urique, the river was to high to cross. We had to turn back to Creel. It rained on the way back to Creel and the roads were pretty muddy and slick at times. We were both on 250's so we got around really good. a locl tour guide at Creel said the road from Creel to Batopilas is still under construction and impossible to pass through at times. You might ask around at Creel before you leave and hopefully someone will have updated info.
