Very sad indeed. The only consolation is that he died doing what he loved. R.I.P Kevin

Saddest news. A motorcycle enthusiast, excellent writer, detailed on his analysis of motorcycle products. I didn't know him personally, never met the guy, don't know his personal story. But I know what he provided to us within the Telegraph and the Ash on Bikes. That is a void that will be impossible to be filled. My condolences to his family, his close friends, his collaborators. And to us: it's a major loss to our community!

Kevin Ash
I'm stunned. I have been following Ashonbikes for some time and was looking forward to his insight. Such a shame. Thoughts with his family.

Very tragic indeed. I frequented his site frequently. Our thoughts are with his family.
![]() I've also read that BMW had postponed the world press introduction due to this tragic accident.

The news says it happened north of George. Was it the spectacular Outeniqua Pass?
Very Tragic. RIP Kevin Ash.

Where did you read that?
This Godspeed will be in the next On The Level BMW rag, along with a big photo spread from the GS Challenge competition: Early this a.m. I heard the noted British moto journalist Kevin Ash was killed during the South African R1200GS "Waterboxer" press launch. There were road testers from all around the world in attendance, including our own associate Shawn Thomas. No details of how it happened, but it's a reminder that what we do for fun is very dangerous indeed. Our hearts go out to Kevin's wife and his children. He'll be sorely missed. This just in from another British journalist friend: "Adam, I've been getting more than a little spooked lately at press intros. Or should I say "the journalist GP". I've been at a point of not wanting to click into the mode needed to run with the pack. It's been invading my confidence and I've spent a lot of days thinking "I don't want to ride this fast on a public road anymore". I've seen them fall before. Kevin was a great guy. Mild mannered, polite, one of the boys. Good at this job, always with a good word. He will be missed. That could have been me. Or you. One of a handful of journalists in South Africa on BMWs. A bullet dodged?" |

"Respected journalist Kevin Ash died after being involved in an accident during a BMW press launch in South Africa. Ash was testing the 2013 R1200GS on a gravel road when the incident occurred. "
So so sad. Thoughts and prayers to his wife and daughters. ![]() -SM
