I get by with a good jacket, long Johns below 25F, and, a balaclava heated grips.

I'm a novice on dirt too but I think something other than a KLR might help that.

Same here. I have to say that I'm looking forward to learning with you guys. Yesterday I took a short ride to the top of Liberty Mt. and though it was brief and only a gravel road, it felt great!
There's a trail north of here, Piney River I think, that would be a great group ride. Its popular with 4x4s and takes you up a mountain and back down the other side. Sent from my iPad

There are some good jeep trails and gravel roads in the National Forest north of Lynchburg that you should check out to get some dirt experience. You may want to buy a good map...I use the National Geographic Trail's unlimited map #789 for that area. Most of the gates are closed this time of year but will reopen around April 1.
Congrads on getting bikes and your new adventure! You will have fun.Ride on! Ken |

if it looks like decent weather, anyone up for a day after Easter ride on South Peddlar, Amherst trails/whatever they are called these days?
(Obviously this is a bit far out, but figure put it out there and see if others would want to take a day off of work.)

I'd like to of course, but I'm about to be limited on time/PTO. Having a child in the spring.

Congrats. Ours will be here mid April. Excited/overwhelmed. Looking forward to it. Don't know the gender and won't be finding out (s/he made it impossible to tell during the ultrasound, but was completely healthy).
