Hey guys, Is it possible to change/upgrade the brake cable installation on the r65? Im going to install a new headlight and the metal cable splitter is in the way. Ideally I could replace it with a cleaner looking cable that had the splitter in the plastic housing and not exposed like is stock on the r65.
Or would I need to buy a new brake master cylinder and replace the whole brake system? Thanks for any input...

BMW has done all kinds of things with front brake hydraulics over the years (Airheads and others):
- MC to caliper to caliper - MC to splitter under tank - MC to splitter on right fork leg - MC to splitter inside the steering tube - MC to splitter on fork brace - more You can also get a long banjo bolt and run dual hoses to the MC. |

Te easy fix is run separate lines to each caliper with a longer banjo bolt at the master cylinder. I have been doing that quite a bit on some of my brake conversions. It makes bleeding the brakes go a lot faster as well.

I run a dual bango bolt and angled bango's to run the lines through the trees. The stock line holders at the bottom tree pinch bolts will still work but I used adel clamps there on my R65. I also run angled fittings at the calipers and then fab my own holders at the fender mount bolts out of sheet metal and mount adel clamps to them. I put black or clear spiral electrical wire wrap around the hoses up by the fork tubes and trees. Those braided lines are like a file! I still prefer non-coated lines. The coated lines often fade and look like crap in a few years. You can always change plastic wrap. I just changed my clear wrap. It finally turned too yellow after 20+ years.
Ugly splitter? I look at it like you will have four line fittings versus six. Less money spent. Less weight. Cleaner installation. Easier to maintain. supershaft screwed with this post 01-16-2013 at 10:59 AM |

Hey guys thanks for the replies.
Cant quite catch along what you meant with the adel clamps etc @Supershaft. But seems like the Banjobolt is the simple solution. Will need to find out what its called in german but the pictures definately help! Will get back once I've made the upgrade thank you guys! |

adel clamp
What I think is most commonly known as a P-clamp. Google it and all will be revealed.

Is the brake light switch in the lever or screwed into the brass anchor?
