Let's rewind... here's the center stand with "dragging" damage.

If you ever need a fabricator and are in the Orange County area check out Jim Shirley. He does great work and is very reasonable

Now back to our show,,, Jim's hand work

Tink, I've got my centerstand off now and doing some welding/repair work and I'm thinking of doing the flat bar stock arm that your welder did. I like the look. Now that you have the pipes and kick stand back on, have you noticed any issues with clearance?

The only caveat is that I removed the original BMW side stand and I'm only using the aftermarket Brown side stand. The tab "could" interfear with a BMW side stand, I did not check for this clearance on mine.

Looking at this old photo when I still had the BMW side stand on the bike I would have to say the new tab location I chose would most likely interfear with an OEM BMW side stand.

better photo, with text...

I know, it's not a good shot, but, I was looking at the BMW side stand foot that is just showing itself below the muffler directly under the heal shifter, not the Brown side stand that the bike is sitting on. If you look closely inboard of that you can see the centerstand crosstube that I welded my flat tab to.

It really does look like it's getting close, Tink.

Eh? Fender Bug

My solution to the question; how do you protect the newly painted front fender during storage and transport... make it into a BUG ;-)

Rubber washers to protect the paint.

Add some old socks and it's back to the rafters for now.

Wicked It's alive!

Fired up PROJECT-S today!
First there was something in the float needle (old fuel hose I suspect) that held the needle open and allowed gas to stream out onto the ground.
Fixed that; then with full choke I thumbed the starter... she spun but no fire. Turned the choke off, added a little throttle to clear her out, thumbed the starter, Voila, SHE'S ALIVE!!!
Set the throttle stop to high idle and after a minute she settled into a nice idle.
What! GEN light (green) is on!? Put the volt meter on the battery, 12.8v at idle, 14.2 at 3500 RPM. She's charging... will figure that out later.
Pipes turned a nice shade of blue... Some smoke from the cleaners I had used... All in all she's happy to be alive once again.

Miller Time!

Almost there...

Tink, GEN light is red, OIL is Yellow, NEUTRAL is Green, at least on my '77

Put it in gear and see if your GEN light goes out

D'oh! You are correct, green light is NEUTRAL... silly me, another senior moment .

As you can see, the paint on the lettering has faded (photo actually makes it look better than in real life) and I've not yet memorized the colors.

I like the brake failure light. That would be really handy on a long stretch of road. On a steep and curvy down-hill section, not so much

What the hell is the wedge for? I remember it lying around on my bench after a disassemble thinking "where the hell did this come from?"

Just by coincidence I found it at the bottom of a box earlier today whist looking for a missing centrestand bushing (i don't use the stand but might build a "paddock stand" type thing) and again wondering what the hell it was for.
