Something to think about...
While BigDog is out having fun....We can dream about upcoming ride options...
Here are 2 very cool rides that will be happening this year... Both are sponsered by the Motorcycle Touring forum. I prerode the The Smoky Mountain ride last fall. Very beautiful area. We will ride and camp each night for 4 days. It should be a great ride. It would be great to get some of Midwest guys along! The Colorado ride will be a blast also. http://www.mctourer.com/rides/2013/smrrr/index.htm http://www.mctourer.com/rides/2013/colorado/ __________________

Smokies
I will load the DR in the truck. Too much HWY for the DR and me. And the ride is not Strom friendly. It would be great to have you along. I have my start and finish nights hotel reserved.

Fun Scramble Report
Sunday Jan. 27 Gateway Husqvarna sponsored a Fun Scramble for practice and bragging rights at the Briggs Training Facility.....Here are the results.
It was a fun day for everyone except for Jeff from Gateway. Jeff tried to make love to a tree….It wasn’t a pretty sight. He didn’t finish his first lap. The top riders, Lars Valin, Steve Akers, & Mike Windmann, battled for 5 laps. Lars got the hole shot and lead Mike & Steve for 3 laps. Steve had a bad start and followed for 2 laps before passing Mike. The next lap he passed Lars for the lead before bike problems stopped him on lap 4. Lap 4 also saw mike passing Lars who eventually ran out of gas on lap 5. So, with Steve out on lap 4 and Lars out on lap 5, Mike ended up with the overall win. Steve had a pretty good gap on the field when his bike died and wouldn’t refire.1 Mike Windmann 2 Lars Valin 3 Steve Akers 4 Jeremiah Feldman 5 Drew Mueller 6 Jody Rock Check facebook tonight for pics

Thank you
Toon... Thanks for this info. I would really like to take this ride. When do you head out for this ride? I ride a KTM 990 ADV. I am a experienced rider and wonder if this is a ride that would be good on this bike? I hope so, because I really want to get out there!!!

Smokies Ride
I will be arriving at the Start on Sunday the 8th. Spending the night in the Hotel for a early start on the 9th. If you are comfortable riding the 990 on rocks and ruts, go for it! none of this ride is very technical. It will have some lose rocks, ruts, a couple easy creek crossings. It will be very scenic,( bring a good camera). Most of the riders are are very experienced,(aka old) but they scoot along at a good speed. We will have the oportunity to spead out and ride your own speed.(bring a GPS and know how to use it). I look forward to seeing you out there. PM me if you have more questions.

Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route
If you are looking for an interesting ride to do this summer----the guys doing the Backcountry Discovery routes have the Colorado maps and gps tracks done.
It starts (or ends) in Four Corners--maybe it will be open by now. Then it heads Northeast to the mountains---wanders here and there over many mountain passes and ends up in Wyoming kind of Northwest of Steamboat Springs. Me and Lefty left this bit of toilet paper the last time I crossed the border there. You can use it if you really need to. I've downloaded it and looked it over---it gets on the CDR and TAT a bit here and there but looks like a nice route. The snow will have to be gone before you attempt this ride. Looks like about 650 miles roughly----little pavement here and there. Butler maps just sent me an early edition of the map--------which is pretty much useless for guidance---but nice to look at on while on the toilet-----or give you the big overview. I guess you have to buy the map but the gps file is free right now for download at the link below. http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/COBDR Their Arizona Discovery route (one of my favorite states to ride in) is in the works---my buddy Dingweeds has been helping them a bit for routing and they have actually used some of the route me and him pioneered thru there a couple years ago. It will be a really good one-------I have no idea when they'll get that out to the public. BigDog

Horatio's Ride
Guys,
I rarely ever post but this is the thread I usually follow. If you are looking for a relief from cabin fever, I just watched Horatio's Drive on Netflix. It is a Ken Burns Documentary on the first transcontinental drive. I feel like everyone on here would appreciate this movie.
