I have about 2K rounds of store-bought 223 stashed away, bought it years ago, haven't fallen victim to the current feeding-frenzy, nor to the one in '08-09. I've got several thou brass cases, however, and am thinking that maybe I'll start handloading up a bunch to while away the cold winter nights.

Re the ammo shortage, this one surpasses the one in '08-09 by far, at least with respect to 223. I was in a big shop the other evening and even their premium brands of 223 were completely sold out, there wasn't a single round in the store. Previously I remember not being able to find the FMJ inexpensive stuff, but the more spendy ammo was still obtainable. Not anymore, at least not around here.

The photo EG posted would only need the stock pinned, the flash hider swapped for a muzzle brake, which would need to be pinned and welded, and a magazine of no more than 15 rounds. We are allowed no more than 2 "evil features". In the case of an AR style rifle, the two features would be pistol grip and removable magazine.

The rifle in the S&W link has no muzzle device, the stock would have to be pinned, and it has a small capacity magazine, so yes, that's gtg here.

I haven't read an analysis yet, but there is a clause about transfers that I don't understand and I would have to get a legal opinion on as to whether it covers transferring existing grandfathered firearms only via an FFL dealer. Or it might even say that a grandfathered firearm cannot be transferred at all except to those who can get a non-grandfathered firearm (gov., manufacturers, etc.) - I am not sure:

Arrived at my door from 'Corporate Overgoods'. I googled that term and it is UPS' loss/damage division.
The scope is a Bushnell Elite 10x40 fixed power that goes for about $230 http://www.opticsplanet.com/bushnell...iflescope.html
Doing a little more research I found out that this is a scope that Barrett sticks on some models of their .50's from the factory so its rated to hold up to some recoil.

The box has been hacked to hell with a razor blade and the original shipping label cut off.
It was repackaged with cardboard pieces taped to the box.
No explanation, no reason, nothing.

I didn't order this thing, but UPS decided I needed it.

I guess I'll order some 1" rings and stick it on my 18" 300 BLK build.

While I hate UPS, ( See my previous thread here about a tube extender for my shotgun http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=809314), if it were me I would contact the company and notify them. Karma will come around at some point. No reason to screw over gun companies. They may even tell you to keep it. Just my opinion. I have been thinking about putting an ACOG on my 300 BLK AR.

AR15.com ("arf dot com") is probably the best known but gotta take almost everything with a grain of salt...lots of bad info on there to go along with the good.

I like M4Carbine.net and despite the name, zombiehunters.org (AKA Zombie Squad) is chock full of win as well...lots of .MIL and LEOs on both and they both tend to rein in the folks who go on about blue phone wire and the like pretty fast. Not a lot of buffonery (especially illegal crap) tolerated either... Bonus for ZS is that if you join you can write off any fees/donations since they're now a bonafide 501c3 charitable organization.
