My father in law did something like that and they determined it was Alzheimer. There was nothing before that indicated he had it. A minister found him in a church parking lot just sitting there not knowing where he was or what he was doing. The paster go his driver license and was able to call family.

He should be home in Enterprise right now. My wife's cousin was at the hospital with him and physically he was the same as before, but he is still a bit foggy. David (Father-in-law) and his wife were smiling and talking and looked at her and said something like, "I'm glad I married you. You seem to have a good personality."

I work with dementia patience all the time, a quick onset (no previous history) could be something as simple as a urinary tract infection or med change and is not typical of full blown Alzheimer disease.
Hope and pray all is well. Sean

Just Got Back
Hey just saw this. Was at Ollokot [sled dog race checkpoint] and in charge of the QRT [Quick Response Team] for medical responses and heard the SAR team at Salt Creek Summit had been deployed and were not available for the race incidents. Must have been looking for your Father-In-Law. Great to hear he is safe. If you need anything for follow-up over here, or they do, give me a PM or email and I will help out.
Phil
