Well R65 has been around for 8 months and almost no money spent and no maintenance, riding to work day after day.
Well.....the clutch started to slip just before Xmas and I adjusted it as much as possible just to get to the end of the year..... Put it up on the stand on Sunday and pulled the gearbox and the clutch looked like this.... ![]() ![]() The rivets polish up nice.... ![]() Found a new ( better) pressure plate and the spare racer clutch disc, cleaned up and reassembled. ![]() Getting better at this as pulled the box out in less than an hour. You know the drive spline they say to lube....... ![]() I'd say the splines are about 1/4 worn....but it has done 100 000 kms. Cleaned up the swingarm tonight, it was in much the same state with the original 1983 grease... Greased up the clutch throwout bearing and put that back together...... gave things a bit of Optimol paste. Should have it back on road for next week....be nicer for my daily 50 km commute than the 1987 Yamaha 200 scoot.....with its worn out shocks. |

All back together, with new oil and filter, took it for a blat and gearbox is still a clunky BMW affair but not notchy.
![]() Might keep an eye out for Spectro tranny oil. It all feels nice and serviced.....might take the heads off later in the year and swap out the valves....a weak point on higher milage R65's. No more scoottering or caging to work... ![]() ![]()

You better do something interesting with the RT - the R65 was a bit of a boring thread |
