http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...=532231&page=6

couple thousand miles on them so far, and no complaints. on my X-Challenge so far i liked the sahara 3's, had one set of tkc-80's (not bad, wear out fast), and now the mefos.

I have used the Mefo tires on my KTM 990 and love them. Exceptional on and off road, and they dont wear out as fast as otehrs. Our team just got back from Alaska and put over 7,000 miles on them in 17 days. I highly recommend that anyone consireding them give them a try. You will not be dissapointed.

Just stopped by Trail Tricks with my TE610 and had David spoon on a set, first priority, best choce no doubt.
Always available at the best price at Trail Tricks ...

Mefo rear

Installed Mefo rear super explorer and tkc front, have about 7k on them. Tkc is shot mefo has couple thou left on it. Tkc handled poorly on gravel roads, ordered mefo front will put on reverse from arrow.

...that is a wise choice.
My first foray in the mountains with a TKC front left me, well, pinched flat...
TKC sidewalls are too flexy for lower pressures on big bikes.
Installed a Mefo Explorer the next week.
Never had a problem after that.

Mefo front is the worst mud tire I ever used on my old 950. I liked my TKC front but kept the thing around 32lbs always. The Mefo wasn't bad on dry dirt roads even filled with babyheads. But mud was a problem.

Laugh Mud

Yeah TKC probably better in mud then mefo but mefo surely is better than stock pirellie scorpions. In such a drought here forgot what a mud hole looked like

Very good tires indeed.

Used on a DR650, got 8000 miles on the rear (Oregon to Oaxaca, Mexico) and 14000 miles on the front (Oregon to South of Colombia) !
It did see some tough roads in Utah and Baja California.

Higly recommanded.

I had some Mefos on my DR650 for about 1500 miles, once I figured out they slid front and rear on dry pavement when the bike was leaned way over they ended up in the basement and then traded for something else, scared the shite out of me sliding right into the oncoming lane.

The Shinkos Ive got on there now have never slid once, touching the pegs down on a DR is maybe an extreme test but it does happen. Mefos felt very cardboard like when playing super-moto boy on backroads.

How many miles did you have on the MEFO's prior to leaning "way" over?.If the side wall lugs were still "new" or not much use applied to them, yea, they probably were slippery.

Which Shinkos?

My DR650 is shod with GP-1s. No complaints on the front.
Rear work good as well....but, its about 75% gone in 2500 miles.

It would be cool to find a rear that lasted longer.

I have tried 606's but, they looked like the lost height with every tank of gas.

Every I time Ieaned over very far on pavement they either slid or felt ready to slide. Most people maybe dont lean over so far.
By 1500 miles the rear Mefo was 3/4 shot and my experiment with them was over. They didnt hook up well in gravel or loose dirt much at all even when new. Spun freely coming out of gravel corners.
For the life of me I cant see what all the foo-foo-raw is over these tires.

705's are what Ive got on the DR for the 19/17" street wheels, they last great and work great on pavement,if Im cautious I can cruise around dirt roads with them. I keep knobbies on the stock rims.
