The $20 DIY Tankbag Lock
I was fortunate a year or so ago to win a magnetic Recon 19 Bag by Rapid Transit but owning a BMW meant I had to strap it down and hassle with it every time I stopped for gas. It also rubbed on my paint which I wasn't very happy about. -So, it sat in the garage, unused, collecting dust.
Fast forward to a week ago. I'm about to go on a big trip and was dreading spending $200 on another tank bag so I could store my shit when it dawned on me.. 2 hours, a few beers, and a $17 Cortech Tanklock Ring later, here were the results. ![]() ![]() This is going to make a great helmet/chest rest: ![]() I took a bunch of pictures of the process so if anyones interested I can put together a little tutorial. Did similar with my vstrom. Used the cortech ring along with a small cutting board I cut to fit the inside of the bag. Heated the cutting board and bent the edges to follow the profile of the tank. Looks good! Thanks for sharing.

I believe the one I ordered for my wife's vstrom was from a 99 Suzuki bandit or hayabusa.

Thanks for this! I have been wanting to mount a Seahorse case (Pelican knockoff, but with the option of keyed latches) as a tank bag, but couldn't find a universal mount... Though I didn't look too terribly hard.
I just ordered the Seahorse case and ring lock mount for it. EDIT: I did a Google search and was reading through a thread here where someone mounted a Pelican case to the tank with this ring lock mount... and then noticed that I posted in that thread saying it looked like a good idea... Looks like I did find the piece I was looking for. I must've been drinking or something that night!
