Zumo 550 no power.

Think I caused a short as it was raining and water was on the pins on the mount.
Any way I can fix?

What happens using the car mount or USB to computer?
It's common for the MC mount to fail do to poor design.

My Zumo was fried twice because of water on the pins at the base. The water causes a short in the Zumo itself. Unfortunate design flaw. Garmin sent me refurb unit..... for $150-175. First was on warranty, second on me.

To test if it is not the cradle, try to power it using a USB cable or the 110v charger/converter that came with it. It still dead, prepare to send it in or throw it out your window.

My second one which is a refurb died after putting it in the motorcycle cradle and turning it off before it completely booted up. Next morning it wouldn't do anything in the cradle, truck, wall power or PC. No water on anything it's just a POS like all 550's are. It goes back tomorrow for another $100 refurb which I don't expect to last a year like the latest one. These things cost to much for this to be happening. I have NO interest in any of their latest motorcycle units especially at $650-$800 entry fee.

FWIW I have a old Garmin V which is 12 years old and works just fine no problems ever. The company is going backwards and until they get their act together I'm not a customer.

Not sure that is fair.

The successor to the V was the 60/76 which have been stellar, and I believe the 78 will carry on the tradition.
The Montana has received glowing reviews both as a handheld and on MC via the rugged mount.

The early (5+ years ago?) Zumo 450/550 was Garmins first try at a dedicated MC GPS. There were issues and they learned from them, and some folks were comped equipment after the warranty had expired.

Perhaps you could make your case to Garmin customer support and see if they could offer a discounted/refurbished 78 or Montana instead.

I have been very happy with my V, 60CSx and Nuvi 500. I have yet to hear of a better option then Garmin products for what we do.
