I have not forgotten that Rattle Snake infested place. In the early eighties while living in LaGrande one of my roommates was trying to access an old mine just upstream from there. There was a bit more water than he planned on and his Jeep drowned and floated down into a deep hole. When we got up there just one corner of the roll bar was all that was sticking out of the river. Lots of Swimming, diving and winching. Freezing cold water also.

Couple a yayhoos got drunk and drove a P/U into Hood River a few years back and got it swamped.
Drunk enough to go git another truck, attempt to pull it out,...
and, yep,... you guessed it,... got it stuck in the river, too.
Tow truck driver turned 'em in, made the front page.
Big small town news!!
Got blood tests over limit as I recall, and some county jail time.
Wild & Scenic River, not a mud bog for Rednecks

They were fast! When I came up on them they were at the river on the left side of the road, there were over 50 of them with babies also. As soon as I saw them I hit the kill switch on my 950 and rolled to a stop. They were no more than twenty feet in front of me. I never thought about my camera until they started bouncing up the rock cliff on the right side of the road! By the time I got it out of my pocket and turned on Crashclay came along and again I was not thinking of taking a photo, oh well...

This is one of the longest canyon roads, I think from the time we got to this road it was about 30 miles of this following this section of river and we met two cars the whole time. It has been traveled but I think a lot of people have over looked this area. There are two roads that head to the East out of this canyon into one range of mountains and two that head West into another range of mountains. The two roads to the East really need to be revisited!
