I've lived all over this country. That pic sums it up perfectly. There are some areas getting more crowded or legislated inshort order too. Spacecoast FL is a good example. We're still a bit rural once you get away from the beach, but most land is closed, public or private.

That's a beaut picture!
I've seen various pics like this before, got some in a big atlas, but none quite have the contrast to show the east-west split so dramatically. New Zealand (the size of Colorado) is almost all black in comparison, with only the largest city showing at all (population density less than New Mexico). No shortage of places to ride here!

A night time photo of Un Zed would be misleading because you guys haven't invented electricity yet, and all the lights are from the communal fires outside the village chiefs house.
But yet some of you still amaze me by getting your point across on websites considering morse code tappy things is the most advanced thing you have to work with... Australia's picture would be more accurate because we have an abundance of kerosene lanterns...

Its the type of riding you like doing...which should decide your bike choice IMO. (given you have riding skills)
its mental, some people can crawl at a snails pace to the trail head...and not be bothered, while others may get impatient at doing lower speeds and having to avoid highway. Its technical, because you do want a bike that's got a long maintenance / oil change interval. its physical, I'm not going to buy a 990, cause I can't pick it up myself. so a 1200GS might give someone a time of their life and the same bike someone might dread. The focus of this thread ... Poor tracking / ordinary top speed / complicated fuel arrangements / no sub-frame for gear ... Unless you're talking rally specced bikes, which no-one can afford ... 500s are great in the bush, but that's not the point ...
