That parking lot is usually packed on weekends with folks hiking the trail.I'm predicting it will be gone if no one picks it up before then....

The weather guessers are calling for 60mph wind here this evening. I don't know how close I'd venture.

Unfortunately I am heading to WV in the cage in the morning.

I'm going to state on the record that KJH will win the award for most prolific poacher in this game.

Been there, done that...

I rode about ten miles one night with a wild electrical storm brewing to grab the VA tag. I was like Roseanne Rosannadana...I thought I was gonna die!

Took me twenty minutes standing in the rain and lightning to get this bonus shot...

It's always a good idea to place a stick or rock(something that doesn't look out of place) on top of the leaves. One of the beauties of hiding mascots is it teaches you to become a sneaky bastid!

There have been numerous times recently where a mascot was uncovered and even blown from the hiding spot by the wind.

Tag I had a great ride last night! I did not pass a single pirate.
I would have placed the tag but after spending ten minutes triying to get a picture of the bike for the pick-up I was not going to fightit for the drop.
I would have taken stonecoal road but thought the multiple water crossing would cause problems since there was already standing water everywhere. I had to watch for rocks coming off the banks on 311 .I passed several that had rolled out in the road.

New tag at lunch if the wind lays down if not I will get it up tonight or in the morning.
Oh this is at the parking lot for the A T south goes to dragons tooth and north goes to McAfee Knob and Tinker cliffs .
McAfee knob is one of the most photographed spots on the A T . If you have not done so I recomend taking a week-end and hiking from 220 to 311 around the cove across the cliffs and up to the knob you will not regret it. It is a little over 20 miles I think and can be done in a day but it is better done overnight.

That Grab was the adventure in adventure rider for sure, unbelievable!

FYI to all RAT Gamers
A missing in action / Brucing policy has been added to the first page set of rules, stolen from the national tag game and edited. Please read it before setting out for the next grab. This will keep the game moving and civil in case the inevitable happens to Rat. What a sad day that would be, yet we could rejoice for the birth of a new rat.

Sorry to highjack the thread but didn't know where else to put it. I just saw this on a whitewater boating website I frequent...

Quote:
New River in Radford hit 87,500 cfs at 10:15 am - which is over 20 feet. Flood stage is 14 ft. Dedmon Center at Radford University is in danger of flooding. A large number of students cars have already been flooded and play fields are awash in water. Claytor Lake is 2 feet above full pond and all gates are releasing.

National Weather Service just issued a warning for the Buck and Byllesby Dams near Ivanhoe and Austinville of potential dam failure. Condition B (whatever that means) NOTE: These dams are UPSTREAM of Claytor Lake, so it is hard to say how a failure would impact the substantial flooding already occuring.

City of Radford has just issued an emergency statement to limit use of water. No flushing of toilets, no using water. Likely due to flooding at the water treatment plan.

Lots of flooding in downtown Roanoke, too.

Gonna be a wild day in SW VA!
All the gauges across the state have jumped WAY up!

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/va/nwis/current/?type=flow

Be careful out there!

Okay here it is not the spot I wanted but it is windy and I had to ride to Roanoke earlier , the wind and cold abreviated the tag ride.

It is in the bushes on right side of the sign.

See there it is.

from behind the sign looking at the bush.

You do not have to pay to access this sign. If you choose to visit the memorial tickets purchase tickets at the visitors center.
The mascot should be safe till mulch season but if it sits that long I will take it into the hills and bury it in mud
