Pittsburgh for 2 weeks. What to do?
I'll be in Pittsburgh for 2 weeks at the end of February. I'm staying & working at Bakery Square, and I have a car. I won't have much time off, but I'll want to get out of the hotel & the shop when possible.
Where do the cool kids (or old moto guys) hang out? I'm looking for interesting museums, food & beverage, moto related things... I'm not in to clubs, dancing and all that. What's the local food I need to try? Other than freeze my "west coast sea level" ass off, what should I do? Is there any remnants of the industrial are that are interesting to see? I'm assuming that the bad neighborhoods are pretty obvious, and avoidable. True? |

Go to Quaker Steak and Lube in Cranberry on Thursday nights and hang out with Rufus, Eric, Pabiker, Rideaholic, Sailah and the rest of the bunch of goofs known as the RCR gang. The food will suck but the company will more than make up for that.

carnege museum in oakland, Primamti's for a sammich in the strip district(more than once) sometime between 10pm and midnight for sure.
The Highland Park Zoo Don't know if it's still there but Froggy's Bar. Take a ride on the incline. Too late for a Steelers game and too early for the Pirates...Just in time for the Penguinns. |

Gotta go see Station Square. Even if you don't eat there, poke your head in the door at the Grand Concourse restaurant. It's in the old railroad station building at Station Square. Plus, there's a bunch of old steel mill equipment out in the parking lot.
From there, ride the inclined railway up to the top of Mount Washington so you can see the whole city from the vantage point. And, +1 on heading north to QS&L in Cranberry to meet up with the RCR gang; it's the local dual-sport club hangout on Thursday nights. Russ

Bakery Square, Dude, there's a Sharp Edge Beer Emporium about a mile from where your working.
So Lunch is covered. One of the largest brew selections I know of. Usually something on cask too. http://site.sharpedgebeer.com/

I'm headed out there to set up a new TechShop location.
It's like a gym, but for tools. Pay your monthly does, use the equipment. Wood shop, metal shop, welding, machine shop, sandblasting & powder coating, sewing, lasers, vinyl cutters, electronics labs, computers with Autodesk software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit...) and Adobe software (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop...), electronics lab, vacuum former, injection molder. Plus hand tools, compressed air, work tables, and on and on and on. If any of you want to check it out, let me know and I'll make sure you get a good tour. Looking for part time instructors as well. |

I've been waiting for the Pgh branch to open. I'd like my company to get a corp membership. For one off R&D projects, we could save money.
I's love a tour.
