Slap Rally

Hey Dadayama... I was thinking about going to the Slap rally.
Sounds like it will be a fun. Maybe we can get some more local guys
to go too.

Slap

I'm planning on going this year too. I'll be riding a more street oriented bike than in the past so planning on riding over instead of hauling. Would be fun to get a group from OKC ride over together.

I'm also considering the Hillbilly Dual Sport in April at Eureka Springs. Anyone else interested in riding over for this one?

Glad your coming, if I can swing it, I will be there on the S10. I am in for the Hillbilly Dual Sport. Let me know when you plan to leave for SLAP, maybe Reddirtjoe, Shawnee Bill and others will ride with us.

Gettin' the "M"

Has any OKC or Shawnee locals have any dealings with the Shawnee DPS? I am looking to get my "M" but am in a bit of a quandary. I have a "13 KTM XC-W 500 that has been made completely legal (with a Sicass Light kit) with exception of DOT tires. Here's the quandary- A set of Dot tires are approx $175.00. The OSU M/C training course
is $175.00. I don't really care for the idea of giving up an entire weakend to take the MSF course but will if I need to!Talking to a few people, the genaral consensus is that your at the mercy of the OHP that is giving the skills test that day.as to whether your tires will work or not. BTW the I was thinking of Shawnee because they aren't near as busy as OKC DPS.. Any suggestions or stories you can share..................when you stop laughing that is!

A little history on this I think is in order. Back during the time the feds were getting close the changing the DL law,
I told myself I was never going to ride on the street and would stay in the dirt so when the law changed I didn't bother with the "M" until it was too late. At that time I also held a class "A" CDL which I also did not grandfater in. Fast forward about 25-30 years and now I get this "itch" to do some Dualsporting and need to get the appropriate license
for such.

Motorcycle test

Years ago, I took my test at the one in Norman. I was the only person there. They didn't look at my bike. The instructor just said follow me. If you spend much time at all on the pavement, those knobbies are going to wear. I would just get a set of dual sport tires.

If one successfully completes the MSF course, the riding block of the "M" endorsement testing is waved upon presentation of a certificate-of-completion. This will reduce ones requirements to only include the vision and the written test blocks.
Also, most insurance companies offer a discount for those having completed the MSF course.

I have been to this class three times... it is not bad, the class is taught by motorcycle cops and they very much can ride... a lot of slow skill stuff. I have definitely improved as a rider. I think the last time i went (last year, i think i even posted about it on this thread) i never touched a cone and never received any couching advice on the different exercises. So i know i have improved...

Remind me again when it is closer and if i have that Saturday free, i'll go with you...

Actually, sitting here thinking about it... it would be cool if we got a big group of dual-sport riders to go!

I just checked and both the hillbilly dual-sport ride and the Arkansas 500 are both earlier in the month... so none of the okies have an excuse...
