Full camping gear and everything I need for weeks on the road. Nice and compact. Ortlieb medium dry bag on top along with a Wolfman Explorer tank bag powered to charge phones etc. 10" Odyssey Jessie Panniers complete the package.

Jeexus you guys carry a pit load of stuff.
In this configuration I can stay out indefinately. I have clothing for 4 or 5 days then I have to do the washing. ![]() In the dry bag are cold weather liners, my tent, sleeping bag, mattress, pillow, and a small bag with flashlight, mess kit, tent stakes, clothes line, etc. Unless the weather changes or I'm camping, that bag never has to be unpacked. I use the same panniers and same packing method on the little GS. ![]() Here's the bike at Manic 5. ![]() Churchill Falls.

sorry it took so long
To the OP that requested the pics of the strap retainers in the box...
This is the way I did it: ![]() I got a length of 1" x 1/16" (i think thats the right thickness...just pick one that seems rigid enough) aluminum bar, a pack of 1/4" stainless fender washers, and longer bolts. The bolts go through the existing mounts. The straps are the bungee type with the clasp on one end and loop on the other. I don't remember the brand, but they were at the dealer when I walked in to get the bolts and ended up walking out with the straps too. Edit: After looking at the posted pic, they are ROK straps I also highly recommend the handlebar bag from Wunderlich that other people have posted on this thread. I had the BMW small tank bag and hated it. If you ride off road and are standing up you'll constantly hit it with your legs. That bag is perfect for my cell, wallet and backup head set module. |

![]() I designed the bags Kirk is making for me. And, while there are a few cues from Jesse, there are several of minor and major differences that should make them more appropriate for my uses. Let's face it, bag design is function over form, so there are only a few basic layouts that are truely functional. Rectangle boxes with flat sides and lids hold stuff nicely, but do not hold up in a crash as well, do not give angled ground clearance without sacrificing volume, and lid designs are limited if you want them to seal and stay closed. Jim ![]() PS I did the overall design, Kirk completed the actual design and mounts himself. |

How do you like the tank panniers? They look really good. Waterproof at all?
