Hi relatively new 650 R owner, I find the drive chain eating into my sub frame, not wanting t over tighten the chain - any suggestions ?
Thanks Rod.

Hi Rod,
Not much of experience here, but i have a couple of dirtbikes including a KLX650c . The chain eaiting up the subframe seems to me it is either a too loose chain, (excessive slack), or a worn chain having too much side play. Could blame also a front - rear sprocket missallignment and/or too big sprockets. Hope i helped a bit. Looking forward for more info about your setup and its condition. Cheers |

Thanks Pintero
The chain and sprockets are new, maybe 10 hours on each.
I will check the rear alignment, and adjust the chain a little tighter. Thanks for the input. Regards Rod.

I am back, putting on original front sprocket. Measurement of aftermarkelt front sporcket are mostly not the same. Before that i had a aftermarket, thought is was a JT, there i must use a ring underneath. I know people who bought a new chain, and after a few weeks they throw it away, because side clearance and hitting this tube you mentioned. People who makes a KLXSM and set out the rear sprocket, wider tire, know this problem, hitting the tire or this tube. This is the main reason. |

Thank you Myway
I will have a look at those issues as well, I do have new sprockets and chain, this could be the problem as I have adjusted the chain as much as I dare to. I do not want to over tighten it and cause damage to the shaft seal on the drive sprocket.
I will check the clearances Thank you Rod

Hey guys, im a little new to the forum so bare with me if i make any technical mistakes, ive got myself a workin 1993 KLX650R enduro series after fixing an electrical issue for it, the bike was my uncles old enduro bike and when he had no time to be able to ride it he handed to my dad where it began to fail from minor damage, after working on the bike and getting her goin, my dad gave it to me since he doesnt want it, now your probably going to think im insane riding this thing when you find out my age, but i really love this bike, the condition its in right now is rideable, but i want to do a full restoration and bring it back to its former glory, if anyone can provide me with websites and locations for either original or aftermarket parts to fit this beast i would be very grateful,
cheers. |
