Show me your non-dedicated GPS, what software you use, and how you mount it!
I've read articles saying that the dedicated GPS is going the way of the dinosaur. What do you think? and what do you use?

Good morning mikesova,
Regarding dedicated GPS, you might find this information helpful. Regarding maps, whether City Navigator or TOPO, this information should prove useful. Good luck, River Pilot Cheyenne, WY. U.S.A. Web: www.riverspilot.com |

I guess I meant for people to show their devices that aren't a GPS first, but that GPS is just one function, i.e. smartphones, tablets, PDA's, mp3 players, etc...

I use my Samsung S3, to record I use my Locus Pro (the openstreetmaps does it for me, in many ways) and where no roads are tracked, I love recording and mapping them to openstreetmap. Secondly, with downloadable vector maps for OSM, I can also see train tracks, electrical overhead line maps and and
To make the S3 work very well, and very accurate, I need to keep it somewhere like a top pocket or on top in a back pack where viobration is minimal but exposure to the gps/glonass stuff is good enough. Battery life is a few hours, good enough for my stuff, before I charge via usb again at night. Hope this helps. (Although, I would probably not recommend it, wish I had a dedicated thing...) |
