Full Bore Tires

No this is not another tire thread.

Just sharing with the collective.

I tried a set of these on my DL650.

The rear lasted me about 3500 miles all of them commuting. I was very surprised.

While they are 2/3 the cost of the tourances they lasted 1/5 the time.

In comparison the Shinko's they replaced lasted me 12K on the rear and I get 15K out of a rear tourance (on more than one occasion) so the life expectancy of this tire was very high but the results were very low.

Judging by the pics on their site, the Fullbore M40 radials appear to be a copy (same tread pattern at least) of the Shinko 705. Did you notice a difference in performance over the Shinkos?

I got the adventure tires.

They were a softer compound and there was alot of rolling vibration from the tread blocks. After getting such low mileage out of the rear I decided the price point did not warrant trying the other tires as well.

I have to say they turn in much easier than the Shinko's did seem to have a more rounded profile while the shinko is flatter and slower to initiate into a turn.

Only the adventure tires come in the sizes necessary to fit the Stroms.

Ah, that's nice, but that still doesn't tell me anything about the tire. How many plies? Speed rating? Belted, unbelted? Cost? You get the idea.

you got 12K from a rear 705 and only 3500 from a full bore adv rear tire???
that is horrible as full bore has gone to shinko and speced out an upgraded 705 for their brand label. i don't understand how the full bore could perform soooo poorly compared to the shinko. why would they spec out so soft of a tire that it melts rapidly? they do get that this is ADV riding on abrasive roads to start with not track day? did you contact full bore? if this is indeed not a fluke then the word is gonna get out real soon that these tires have a soft compound that wears way too fast and full bore is sunk with that tire. for the same price why would anyone choose full bore?

any of you guys remember the maxxis pressa tire in beast sizes? mileage also sucked big time for them and they pulled the plug. from what i've read kenda big blocks are not a whole lot better in the rear tire dept. as far as mileage.

it has a higher speed rating than the shinko.

I just got 7000 miles out of my rear Fullbore M40 on my Tiger 800 XC and replaced today with another one. Most of the miles were commuting miles. So for some reason i got twice the distance you did.

Funny, but the way it was explained to me by the distributer was that Full Bore tires are made in the Shinko factory. The same factory that used to produce Yokohama tires before Yokohama decided to get out of the motorcycle tire business.

When Yokohama stopped making motorcycle tires, they sold the factory to a group of investors. Yokohama remained a partner in this venture for a number of years, but eventually sold their interest a while back.

The tire molds for both Shinko and Full Bore are produced in Japan at Yokohama's main facility. So if the tires appear similar in tread design, there is an obvious reason for that.

I have no idea if the rubber compound is different from the Shinko, but I seriously doubt it. My DL1000 Vstrom normally takes a 110/80/19 on the front. I opted for the street based Full Bore tire, which is the M-66 Tour King Tubeless. The size was 100/90H/19. The tire currently has 4,000 miles on it and appears to have very little wear.

At this point I would certainly buy another one. But who knows what my opinion will be as it approaches the end of it's life. Once I get there, I will report back. I suggest we get more feedback before we condem the brand. Especially considering how inexpensive they are.

Shinko a are made in Korea too. I bet 100$ they are identical. I've run the 705 on a KLR and I've run many other shinkos on street bikes but I've been a little leery of trying them on my GS due to the fact that its so freaking heavy. Maybe I'll look at the shinko/full bore things again.

thread update. guess FB changed the compound and now they produce solid mileage.
