Heidenau vs Mefo

Hi,

Searched & read and could not find a really good answer to my questions.

I am looking at the Heidenau K60 Scout and Mefo Super Explorer in 140/80-18 size to replace the MT21 on my 2012 KTM 690 ER.

Is one softer than the other as far as tread compound? Does one have a stiffer sidewall than the other? Does one grip better on-road/off-road than the other? Is there a difference in wet pavement performance?

Thanks,

MrHix

I liked the K60 enough on the 640A I sold a month ago, I mounted one up on the '12 690.

Plenty nice on the twisties as well as gravel, and they wear like iron.

606 on the front, and a K60 bringing up the rear makes for toe scraping front end lifting fun.

It's a hoot of a bike, ain't she!

Thanks for the input.

Yes, great fun. I call it my "Hilarious" motorcycle because anytime I get on the gas hard, I have to smile as the rear starts to spin or the front wheel leaves the earth!

Cheers,

From the photos I've seen of the Mefo, the tread looks to be a little less open than the K60 which makes me think it is a bit more tarmac biased than the Heide.

I've tried the D908's just because years back I fell into a smoking deal on 4 rears for $50, but I probably won't buy anymore rears. The 908 front's gave me headshake from hell no matter what I did on the 640A.

You'll get more opinions on what tire does what then can be imagined,If your riding mostly dirt get a mostly dirt tire, both these tires are an attempt at a dirt touring tire and arent like a knobbie in the dirt .

A 690 in the dirt with a wimpy tire would spin lots.

I guess I should have said I am going to buy one of these tires. Trying to decide which one does what on the street & in the dirt. If they are the same, I will buy the cheaper of the two. Looking for a direct comparison of the 2 tires listed.

Cheers,
