Went on a motorcycle ride to Clear Run to hopefully see the remains of the AJ Johnson steamer in the Black River but was unable to locate the I-69 Marker. Searched around the bridge, the old grocery, and the old building at Clear Run but didn't see a marker or remains of the old boat. I did find the I-44 Gun Factory marker nearby but with no remnants of the factory it's considerably less exciting. Just letting you know in the event somebody ran off with a steamboat sign for some reason.

Just found the ncmarkers website and I'm looking forward to seeing some of the old historical sites. It's the best and most user friendly database of historical sites in North Carolina that I've found since I moved here.

Many thanks for your e-mail.

The Steamboat Trade marker was damaged in an accident several months and a replacement marker is on order (see the attachment). The cost is being covered by the insurance company of the party responsible.
