How about a pic? It's not me in the picture, because I'm the one taking the pic, but I had just traveled the same line. The condition of this trail was similar to the pic for what seemed like a couple of miles. The pic is of us coming down; I beat the snot out of the bottom of my bike relentlessly going up and coming down. I guess that's what I get for being a fat bastard! And please don't get me wrong, I think the Weld86 plate is a great piece of equipment. I will definitely buy another one without hesitation. ![]() Edit for additional info: I didn't realize until months later that I had bent the plate. I didn't notice the plate springing when I removed it for maintenance, but when I tried to put it back on, the holes didn't line up. I contacted Charlie and he told me to send it back to him and he would fix it, but I figured out how to do it myself. Amazing what you can do with a pipe wrench! Anyway, please hear me when I say that the plate suffered from user abuse, not faulty equipment!!!!! |

Another plug for the Weld 86 Plate. Mine just arrived and I have to say the craftsmanship that went into this plate is amazing.
The welds are something that Charlie must smile as each one leaves his hands and off to a customer who will proudly beat the tar out of. Very fast to ship and flawless quality. |

Seems like y'all could get to Starbucks just fine with the stock one lol. Seriously I've been beating my bike up for a few years now with the stocker and its held up just fine. I don't see the need to drop a few hundred bucks on an aftermarket one just yet.

Agreed about the Weld. I had to choose between the two,(weld and BDCW) and I almost didn't buy the Weld-seemed "home-brewed" on the website. But I took a chance and it arrived during a product shoot for another client of mine.
So I played a bit with it. Very nice.

Here's another out of Kelowna BC. Added 3rd mount, plus available in custom colors to match your Adventure. He also builds one for the 950 SE

Sorry, don't have video. The pic, where I'm sure some of the damage happened, is in this thread in an earlier post above. I didn't realize it was tweaked until I tried to put it back on the bike months later after an oil change.
I used a pipe wrench to twist the front and rear of the skid plate. In doing so, I broke the weld on the piece that has the front mounting holes in it; you know how you bend a piece of metal back and forth until it breaks? I contacted Charlie and he offered to fix it for me, even though the damage was clearly not his fault, but I decided to live with it. The crack in the weld doesn't go all the way across, so when it breaks all the way, I'll probably just buy another one. |

I picked up the Slavens Racing plate. I think it is the best combo of quality & value.
