A crf230 motor bolts right in with e-start but adds 10 + lbs or so. A trade I'm not willing to make.

thats a great bike kayaker, i am one like you who wants and prefers the big bore thumpers in a no nonsense simple package. i really dig the PDS conversion.

it reminds me of something though,,,,, oh yeah, my ATK, pretty much what you built, but air cooling to have electric start at that weight, a little bit custom also, recognize any bits?

Now that sounds familiar. I've owned 10 Hondas. 4 of them XRs. Back in the late '80s a group of us downsized from XR500s to XR200s. Much easier to lift over gates on midnight trail rides! Skip forward 30 years and the bike that brings me the most fun is also from Honda. And light too. - Montesa 4RT. You tried one. Not as fast as your 218. But a great climber.

When looking for engines for my 180 lb bike I looked hard at the 4RT engine. I hoped I could mix it up with some CRF250 parts to get a light engine with wide ratio gearbox and torquey disposition. The problem is availability of spare 4RT motors is pretty much non existent. I was also going for a dirt simple low tech engine with a low parts count. The fuel injected, water cooled 4RT added a lot of complexity I was trying to avoid.

I would love to get my hands on one to try,..
