990 Dakar 2011 or 2013 990 Baja edition?
Bit of a difference in price yes, worth it?
I do like the Baja! ![]()

My vote is for the Baja, mine is on order. My girlfriend already named it just from the picture - The Beast (she actually hates how it looks, but I sure don't).

I would think there's a pretty big difference in price between to two. I'd go for the '11 Dakar and use the saving to buy your own luggage system, a bash plate, side stand relocator and hand guards. You'd probably still be $2000 ahead.

'11 Dakar is essentially "R" height suspension but with ABS and some "limited edition exclusivity" as well, right?

From what I've read, it's the same height as the standard Adventure. It has a different seat, comes with a tank bag and tail bag, has a GPS mount, knobbie tires and a different rear sprocket, and a limited Baja sticker.

It, being the Baja, not the 11 Dakar - as you stated, and also auxiliary driving lights, a larger rear rack, aluminum radiator protector, and no ABS.

The Baja is in the catagory "if you gotta ask, you can't afford it" because the stealership has no price listed for it.
I'm assuming $15,xxx ish The Dakkar is $13,xxx for a 2011 hold over with lackluster engine performance when compared to the other flagship adventure bikes seems a bit steep. Besides the additional bolt on goodies for the Baja, what is the differences? Does the Baja have the same engine mapping and rev limiters as the 2011 Dakkar? Same suspension? I was trying to find a good source to really compare the bikes, I may need to take a ride to the dealership as they have both versions in stock. |

I say used 2011 Dakar for 10,500-11,000 ish, then 3-4000 for add ons if desired. The only "lack luster" performer on my Dakar is ME! The bike flat hauls a$$!

I am into the same thing, buy left over or current. Here is what I found.
2011- 3 models - R with long travel and 117hp , Standard with standard travel and regular 100hp, then the Dakar with standard travel, 117hp, hand guards and crash bars. 2012- 2 models - R with long travel and 117hp, Standard with standard travel, 117hp, hand guards and crash bars. (blue or white) 2013 - baja- standard travel, 117hp, hand guards, crash bars, dirt tires and bags. The best deal, I think, would be an 11' standard. If you want more hp get it the FI mapped to R spec. Then buy what you want for guards and bags. Then again, the blue is very cool. Shit, forgot about ABS - not on the R, not sure about the Baja, on all the others.

How tall are you
I'm 6'2" I like the taller bike. I say go with long travel if your tall and spend what you save on farkles.
