Anyone ever remove Humvee Graphics decals from Adv cases?

Hi all,

A while ago I bought a set of reflective chevron decals from Humvee Graphics for improved visibility. It was the kit that has the red stripes for the rear edges, white for the front edges, and yellow for the top edges. The decals are very high quality and provide drastically improved visibility from all angles, but the yellow stripes on the top of the cases is just too 'over the top' for my taste so I'm thinking of removing them. Problem is - they seem like they're on there pretty darn good. Before I bust out the heat gun I thought I'd check in with folks here to see how easy these things are to take off. If I'm going to end up with a massive mess I'll just leave them alone, but if they come off fairly easily with some heat and cleanup with Goo-Gone then I'll opt to forgo that little bit of extra safety in the interest of not looking so much like a crossing guard.

Otherwise the HEAT GUN and Goo-Gone should work just fine.

Heat gun some wd40 and dental floss easy peasy.

Get that bullshit off of there

Careful with Goo-Gone, Goof-Off and similar removers on plastic. Sometimes they react with undesirable consequences (i.e. melt the plastic). Heat and WD40 is the safe way to go

From the title of this thread, you have the aluminum Adventure cases. Use the heat gun and soak them with a good amount of heat. They should easily peel right off with the adhesive still attached. If not, they need more heat.

I need to add more. I am about 10% what you have. I need the other 90% to keep the tailgaters away. Dropping to 50-55 on a freeway usually works, but slows me down as well. Not sure they get the point either.

I used the wifes hairdrier and an old credit card to remove the humvee chevrons from my old alloy 1200 adventure cases.

To remove the sticky residue i used a wee bit of petrol on a cloth and then sprayed the alloy with some WD40 for corrosion protection.

Removing a black and white ADV reflective sticker was a nightmare..............I eventually used some 'Nitromors' paint remover along with an old credit card to scrape off the residue before oiling again with some WD40 to stop corrosion

The heat gun and some Goo Gone did the trick. The top case chevrons came off very easily. With just a little heat they peeled right off and left almost no glue residue on the cases. The side case chevrons almost seemed as if they were made differently. They just broke up into tiny chunks when I tried to peel them, so I finally just got them very hot and scraped them off with a credit card. I then heated up the remaining glue residue and it rubbed right off with a Goo Gone-soaked rag.

While removing some ALUMINUM foil backed non-skid black material (sand like) from a LIFT I purchased over the weekend:

Option 1.
Tried a HEAT GUN and heated up one of the non-skid strips. The underlying adhesive partially melted and I was able to remove the strip. Left a residual quantity of 'adhesive'...NOT really removable with Goo-Gone, gasoline, or even a wire brush!

Option 2.
With a HEAT GUN...lifted just a corner of another strip...and then forcefully TUGGED at the strip to remove it. The entire strip released along with ALL of the adhesive on the back. There was NO residual adhesive left.
Note: Do not HEAT the entire strip...heat just enough so that you can get a hold of something to TUG with.

I had to cut the original strip into manageable size strips...6" wide...to be able to TUG to remove it. Any bigger...it would have been impossible.

Recommendation:
If you have ALUMINUM foil back graphics/surfaces that you want to remove...try the TUG method.

If you have NON-ALUMINUM backed graphics/surface...the HEAT GUN/Goo-Gone might work better.
