Ice Report
Still waiting to hear something from Sjaak on ice conditions. He did move forward with overnight cold testing of systems, so we thought this was a good sign.
Here some final prep and some more detail on the sled in this video #12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1vD4_wNc2k |

WOW!!! Is all I can say......an excellent adventure to say the least!
I have just spend the morning watching all of the video clips and thoroughly enjoyed them all...... My biggest fear would be....while sleeping a snug as a bug in a rug so to speak, then realizing there are a few curious polar bears thinking a nice light snack was within reach. Could this sled keep him safe and or, weapons to possibly save the day??? Subscribed for the long haul.....keep up the great work! Here's to completing the adventure safe and sound.

The only thing that bear would have smelled from me was shit as I filled my pants at an alarming rate!!!!
![]() I'm not sure what vehicle that cameraman was in, I suspect an argo of some type......that bear would have gotten to him at some point imho...!!! It certainly wouldn't be my way of spending a night or an afternoon! If I were this rider and thought about sleeping in that human freezer, or human toaster whichever it may be.....I'd be packing more than one means of dealing with mister polar bear!!!

We're hearing that there is another access point where the ice is not rough and broken up.

This from Sjaak overnight;
"Today the first miles in Barrow. Sunday the sledge will be put together and I can do a test ride and test pull on the polar ice. Best, Sjaak" |

Good luck to Sjaak, I'll be following the ride report as well.
I watched the sled/trailer build and to me it doesn't seem sturdy enough with the decal covered plastics for walls. A curious 1000 pound polar bear would break into that in no time. It's not like you can escape from the sled and take off running, I hope Sjaak brings along some form of defense from a bear. Something like mace, cattle prod, Desert Eagle, you know, something to get rid of a hungry bear. Other than that, this is going to be an epic journey. |

Now that's an adventure...
Wow, I'm in to see how he does this. I've read a lot of RR on here but this is truly unique in the logistics and isolation aspect of it. I wish him the very best and for a successful outcome on his trip.
Keep us posted....I know I'm not the only one interested in a journey like that...

Rear Shock & Steering Dampener & Engine Pre Heater
Last video of the work on the Yamaha R1. Next up is a video of Sjaak testing the sled and then arriving in Anchorage with tranship to Barrow.
We've got four vids working on the work in Barrow and preview of the ice. This video shows some more extensive custom work on the YZF-R1. This time the pre heater, unique rear shock setup/requirements and the steering. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkmkhIF1L20 jgrooms screwed with this post 02-11-2013 at 09:35 AM |
