First, why wouldn't you just pull the tanks with gas in them? Second, why syphon instead of draining it out thru the petcocks?

Bought a Shindengen FH020AA R/R and installed it.

This is the new update part no. for the FH020AA with the upgraded heat sink.

removed stock R/r and check the fit

measured and checked wiring length

crimped the new connectors. btw i cut off the stock wires from the alternator close to the conenctor to install the new Furukawa connectors.

will it fit using the stock mounting holes ?

looks like it will

i'll just need to trim some plastic here and it will fit using the stock mounting holes

took care of the grounding used a new ring lug.

For the positive connections from the R/R, i cut off the stock 2-pin connectors and used two separate bullet connectors from the FH020. Sorry but you cant see this clearly in the pic.

this is what i took off the bike. It not faulty or broken i just wanted a project

new 990 adv rider

Just got me a 2007 990 and was wondering if any of you recommend a good mechanic in the Los Angeles area. Looking for someone who might not be corporate anymore, has his own shop and can teach me a few things while working on my bike as i plan on taking her around the world.

I've had her for a few weeks now, but still haven't had to opportunity to ride it as we wait for the snow to melt. So, might as well get familiar with it. I had ordered a set of SW Motek crash bars, and a CJ's kickstand relocator, so took the opportunity today to mount them up. While I had it apart I went ahead and installed the battery tender leads as well. I also mounted the bars on the studs as recommended here in the forum. Fork springs are on their way, so she should be ready to go at the first sign of a thaw.

Your on the right track there Bud, & since I'm like a Washington Politician (good at spending other peoples money)-

You will need ,Black Dog skid plate & large luggage rack, a set of Jesse Luggage & most of all, a set of WINGS exhaust

Then you'll be good to GO------FAR & FAST !!!!

Tip of the day: KTM fork rebuild kit saves a stupendous amount of money.

Freeway Blaster Horn Install

After investigating aftermarket horns for my 09' 990R, I decided to install PIAA Freeway Blasters. I need horns that are resistant to water and off road vibration. And loud.

I began the install thinking the twin horns would fit behind or under the headlight. They fit, but so tight that the horn body did not have clearance, reducing the vibration necessary for producing maximum volume. The horn body has to mount suspended on the mount bolt and able to vibrate freely or the sound is reduced drastically.

Therefore, I sought other locations and decided on the interior of the left and right fairings. There is plenty of room for the horns in the fairings. I had initial concern that placing them in the fairings would muffle or reduce the sound volume. There was only slight difference between the horn sound in the open connected to a battery, and the finished sound produced pushing the horn button. Plenty loud and unique to get people's attention on the roads and trails of Cambodia.

Adventure 990R LED lighting

09' 990R aux lighting choice. I chose to go with a Baja Designs 4 LED light bar.

Baja Designs makes first class dependable gear. I have used their lights on five bikes without fault or failure. I looked at lots of different lights for my 990R and decided to "Go with what I know." The question was, two quads mounted on the crash bars or the 8" bar under the OEM head light. The light bar was different, fit well with the lines of my bike, and tucked in perfect for a protected mount. There is enough clearance between the light and the light fender, no problem. The only downside to the power cord that exits the light body out the left end.

I decided to fabricate my mounts using 1.5 mil Kydex. I have used Kydex to make many things from side panels, to Kukri sheaths, and heat shields. Good stuff that is easy to work with. You just need a heat gun. (hair dryer on steroids)

The BD bar has a dimmer function. 50% or 100% at the flick of a button. The BD wiring harness was not cheap, and it is not made cheap either. Quality wire, sheathing, and connections throughout. It works great. I made a mount for the dimmer button from, you guessed, Kydex.

I used an on/off switch from Highway Dirt Bike fitted with my Beefy "Big Bike" hand guards and top clamp set up. I like their stuff too. Never sorry to spend a little for quality. Their folding mirrors work, even at speed over rough stuff.

Next I modified my OEM U.S. right hand switch to have a on/off button for the OEM headlight. I did this with another push button from HDB. inexpensive and easy to do, avoiding buying the KTM switch at $80 or so.

My first night road test went awesome. After some preliminary height adjustments I went for a ride. The LEDs out performed the HID on my 450MXC. The light spread is wide, covering both sides of a two lane road well. Usable light out front goes to 200 meters in bright near white light. The dim mode got no flashing complaints from oncoming drivers. The two middle LEDs are spots and the two outer ones are wide angles. The combination is great for me. I will post some night time pics when I have a chance.

Gotcha! Nothing wrong with that. I was just worried you had a problem with the filter since I just installed mine.
