This is what the Bear Creek Trestle looked like before they buried it in sand. It was part of the Stephenville North and South Texas Railway that went between Hamilton and Stephenville. It was completed in 1907, leased to the St. Louis Southwestern Railway July 1, 1913 and then abandon on October 17, 1934. They started pulling up the track on February 6, 1941 and was completed on August 1, 1941. The trestle was the first curved trestle of it's size and was an engineering feat of the time. It was built by Chineese labor, each worker was paid one silver dollor per month. It took ten years to build. The railroad was afraid it wouldn't hold under the strain and weight of a moving train, so they covered it up with sand to reinforce it. The same building method was later tried and found to be much stronger than they ever expected it to be in the state of Oragon, so they left it futher builds uncovered.

Sure does not look like that now... I wonder how many of our RTB riders have blown past this and never seen it? I have not reported it cause I did not know who it belonged to and did not want trespass issues

Reported it ? ? ? Did it break the law........... And no it doesn't look like that now or when the first train crossed it in 1907. Did you read the article I wrote telling about it ? They covered it with sand ! ! ! As for trespassing, I just happen to know the land owner and her nephews.

Rode out to Mineral Wells/Palo Pinto area yesterday. Had a route planned but ran into closed gates every 20 feet it seemed

So we got more creative with our route planning and I'm pretty happy with what we found
