I figured it out.
I know why everybody is crashing. It's from the accumulated oil and coolant from all the crashed bikes being wheeled across the road.

Classic: target fixation, followed by panic, stand the bike up and run off the road. This scenario probably accounts for more than half of all single-vehicle motorcycle accidents.
