I had both bikes. If you are planning some serious off-roading (for an adventure bike that is), you will not be disappointed. However, if you do mostly road, than the V-Strom is better. But the Tenere is actually OK even on motorways as soon as you are not in a hurry and you dont have a pillion

Tyre Choice

Choosing tyres, what a nightmare. No real price differences and you cant try before you buy. What are the general thoughts? Prices so far are...

Mitas E09 Front £40 Rear £60
Dunlop D606 Front £55 Rear - Cant Find
Pirelli MT21 Front £57 Rear - Cant Find
TKC 80's Front £62 Rear £73
Metzeler Karoo Front £56 Rear £66
Michelin T63's Front £51 Rear £70

I have stock rims so perhaps this is why I cant find a rear Pirelli or Dunlop for a 130/80 - 17 rim. I know . Going to Morocco later in the year so need something a bit dual purpose.

Not sure I fancy mixing up the manufacturer but I know some riders don't find it that much of an issue?

Im tempted for the T63's. This is what OTR used on their evolution bike.

Has anyone used these before?

FYI, the MT-21 do exist in 130/90 17. Should be no problem to mount them on a rear stock Tenere ;-)

Ive used MT21s TKCs and T63s, all good tyres Im now on an E09 mitas as I said before. The Mitas is harder wearing apparently. If your riding down to Maroc on the tyres I would forget MT21 but they are all really a 3k mile tyre on a rear and maybe double that on the front. Dont get to het up about it, go with what you fancy.Everyone has a view, and if you listen too much you will just end up scratching your head.
Just forgot my riding buddy fitted a 130 D606 on rear of his old Tenere and says its fine now hes scrubbed it in but doesnt have much confidence in it when its wet

Thanks Wide, I ordered a pair of MITAS E09 Dakars today so I will see how they go. I will try to post some pics and thoughts when I get them to share some knowledge.

Thanks for your advice.

Well here's mine fitted a Mitas E10 front... so similar to TKC and went for a E09 rear ... like a T63.
Took it out for a couple of hours to wash off the grease on the new tyres!!

All in all good although I had the pressures high and need to drop some out for a proper ride off road, did very well on lanes and better than expected in pretty soft bog

Nice. Thanks for the advice again. I tried Trellesport but they had no fronts after a big run on them. I ended up getting them from Oponeo.co.uk for £90 including delivery by Friday. Not heard of them before but they came up in a Google search, had them in stock, good price and a good delivery date. I got the Dakar version by way. I think Sysie tried these a found them pretty good. We shall see.

Nice Pic's Wide.
That tyre set-up will be fine for Salisbury Plain.
I'm on TKC's at the moment but going to the E-10/E-09 combo when I need to change them.

Cheers...
