With an open loop, can I still tune the bike to make more hp and torque, idle correctly, good throttle tip in, etc?

I'm also worried (naturally) about operating that part of the ECU in an open loop and having a lean out at certain rpms, load, conditions, etc. How critical is the 02 Sensor to the whole picture?

Dpg,you don`t show your location but if you are anywhere close to west Tennessee call this number,731-885-1792.Low up front prices with no doc fees.I dont know the price yet as it isn`t on there web page.Good people to deal with,no suprizes.Good luck.

I am in St. Louis so I am close to west Tennessee. There is one very large Honda powersports here and about 5 smaller dealers around. The big dealer I was referring too also said they would only be getting 1 cb1100 abs. I haven't tried the smaller dealers yet as they usually get bikes far after the major dealer does. I don't know if "getting only 1" is true or if it was just a scare tactic. I guess I don't mind buying somewhere else as I will never take my bike to get serviced at my closest Honda dealership anyway. I was lucky enough to find an independent shop that does quality work and appreciates my business. I remebered someone posting about the dealership in Tenn. and thats why I commented about going out of town to purchase the bike. Thanks for the information. I may just give them a call next week.

Not to hijack, but who is the independent St. Louis shop that does quality work? TIA.

You're only an hour from Litchfield and Neihaus Honda. If anyone is going to have a few in that area, it will be them. But I expect that there will not be alot of these bikes showing up at the dealers for quite some time, so looking for a discounted purchase early on will be pretty tough. And if the traffic in the Honda both at the Chicago Show yesterday was any indication of things to come, landing any of the new Hondas could be pretty tough...or expensive.

Open loop doesn't preclude this stuff; in fact, I think many of the aftermarket systems like the PCV require going open loop. Whether the stock or modified system is better in the qualities you mention is open to question since we don't have a US tune bike yet. And I don't know how much attention this bike will get from aftermarket tuning specialists. Fuel mileage will probably go down a bit.

My guess is that you can bolt on this system and the bike will run fine. Whether it will run better/worse than stock with/without aftermarket turning, hard to say at this point.

I was very very pleased with my experience at Flying Tigers Motorcycles in Maplewood. I can't express how much more professional and less expensive it was than the dealings I've had at the dealership.

Ah...Thanks, Mark.

Gas Mileage doesn't concern me too much. I mean, it's already in the 40's. It's my guess the cb1100, like most modern engines, is tuned on the lean side. I'm just wondering how you go about richening the mixture when they put on a high flow exhaust.

Guess I'll have to wait...

I doubt you'll have any issues (other than the ridiculous cost).

Ok...I'll bite.

That CTX700 is one of the ugliest bikes I have ever seen IMHO. I have even lost almost all of my lust for the moto guzzi v7 (still an awesome bike) and don't even really care what the new retro bmw boxer is going to look and be like anymore. I am about one day from plunking down some money on a bike I have never seen in person. This bike is just calling me! And when I am being honest with myself I am really just a Honda guy and always have been. So call me boring or lacking in character but I think this bike (cb1100) will tick all my boxes for years to come. Since this thread had died, lol, maybe someone could tell me with all the complaining about bikes running lean these day, isn't it fairly easy to make them run richer? Is this the accomplished with and ecu reflash? Can dealers do this? I assume with carbs it would be much easier but I wouldn't trade those for EFI I don't think.

Easy there, dpg. Take deep breaths. Easy...

I would suggest going to a Motorcycle Show and checking out the cb1100 first b4 you plunk down a deposit. I did. Went to the International Show in NYC. Then, I knew it was the bike for me.

Well, not 'the' bike. I'm still keeping the Ducati...
