Noise in top end?

I recently bought a 1986 KLR 600 for $500.00. The bike was sitting for a year and a half. It starts right up but will only run on full choke. I can fix that by cleaning the carb! The other thing is a clicking noise from the top end. Could that be the Cam Chain Tensioner? Any input would be appreciated!

Always make sure the valves are in spec before you go diving into anything else (carb, cam chain tensioner, etc). If the valves are out of spec, even a perfectly-tuned carb won't make the bike run right.

Thanks for the response! Could the valves be out of adjustment due to sitting for over a year.

The valves could have been out of adjustment before it sat. I agree with Stretch. Check the valves and then clean the carb. It will probably make it run a lot more smoothly and quietly.

ok I will do that, thank you! Anything I should look out for when doing the valves I do have a manual and will follow their instruction.
