...the "State of Jefferson" holds a special place in my heart. I have some property up that way and just wainting for the "succession movement" to start up again.

Seems my route will be different than yours on the OBCDR. We'll be on the East side of Hwy 97 going south to north but I see some future rides happening based on your route.

If you are going the direction of Reno,,when traveling thru hwy 44 ,cut off a-21 to Westwood Ca.

check out the nice lunch at the Olde Mill Cafe .. (close at 2:oopm) I have new set of tires, just mounted up TODAY!! glad 2 show you around?? Fred

Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us. What camera(s) are you using? Also, could you give any more information on the mods you've made on your DR? You've mentioned the suspension and the tank. Any other farkles of note that you believe are important and add to the bike's capabilities?

Looks like he's added footpegs, case savers, hand guards, FMP Q4 pipe, jetting, rear tail light mod, gearing, heated grips and heated jacket accessories, windscreen......and do I see a "fatter/wider" seat foam....?

Jet kit, RT Emulators in forks (softens the sharp hard hits), custom seat and Acerbis 5.3 gal tank. Gives me close to 250 mile range. I love the bike !

Good planning and great trip, not to mention a lot of excellent photos. thanks for sharing. Many folks not from the NW folks believe it rains all the time, but four months of the year really is paradise on earth. Don't tell anyone... Towards fourth week in Oct, not so much. Glad to hear a shout out to Bend, one of my favorite small city places to get away from Portland.

Now waiting for the rest of the story...

looks like we share passion for little manly bichon tug rat, best little 9 pound fetcher I've ever owned.

Nice northern California riding here. We notice the tree species are changing.

We are headed to Crescent City a seaside town for lunch, but Tony will route us through the Redwoods first.

OK, this was very cool and part of the overall trip experience. We pop out on the South Fork of Smith river. Everyone ahead of me, in the corner of my eye I see this:
"The Cool Bus"

I grabbed a handful of brake and rounded up the bike. I just had to check this out. I mean how many times in my life will I be back here ? Never right ?

A elderly couple who lived in the woods, in the bus ! "The Cool Bus" as was painted in it.

Yea, this was northern California ! I was meeting the genuine article. This is what these trips are all about. Not a hobby or an act for them. They lived it in their hearts. A true piece of Americana.
They give me a tour.

One of the 1st questions he would ask me, and genuinely:
"Is marijuana legal in NJ" ?

Sure, our political views were 180' apart I'm sure. Me being very conservative and he a free spirit. But we are both Americans 1st, and I was dam glad to meet him and shake his hand. I admired his freedom and care free lifestyle. Something very alien to me and my life in NJ.

They will probably live care free and old enough to bury me !

Big fires in that country. There was a 400,000+ acre blaze I guess about 12 years ago that nearly burned down into the Pacific near Brookings. Then there were some other large fires a couple years ago.

If you drive 199, you will see where they stopped the southern edge of the fire at the highway/river. If the fire had crossed 199... a lot of the north coast might have been toast.

But the big fire season was 1954. The "Tillamook Burn' in Orygun went to the pacific (burned a chunk of the town too), and in Northern California, there was a redwoods fire that burned to the pacific near Big Lagoon.

Frank, good on you for understanding the other side of thinking. I'm probably in the middle somewhere but there are good people in every direction. I'd probably fall down laughing if he asked me about weed being legal in georgia. I may look for that bus this spring when I'm back out in norcal.
