Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is the bike in the background on FIRE?

Note: the bottom right photo is the old style and no longer produced, the larger left photo is the current one and the garage is larger.
As someone looking to upgrade my tent because it is too large/heavy I had looked at the garage tents. I was primarily looking at them (2 makers, I think the same actual maker just different branding) because they offer a place to work on the bike if needed during inclement weather. They can also help to hide the fact there is a bike there. Most people dont just root through others tents unless there is something shiny to grab their attention. If they are going to go through your tent anyway then it wouldnt matter where your bike is. Going through all 35 pages of this thread I only saw a couple people with them. This prompted me to ask why. Are they too expensive? Too bulky/heavy? Didnt know about them? Underperform in some way (if so what???) something else? |

Quote:
I think they're too big, heavy and expensive. I believe they're 15 lbs packed. There's no way to carry one on anything but the largest bikes, at least not if you're trying to pack light. And my PERSONAL opinion, which I know will piss off some people, is that they're the ultimate poser tent to go along with the ultimate poser bikes. I suppose if you have the money and the space to carry it, not to mention the time to set it up and tear it down, it's a nice tent. I don't doubt it's a quality piece. But I'll stick with my REI Half Dome that I paid $100 for brand new during a sale. Sets up in about three minutes and weighs very little. Rob

I say B.S. I have done a ton of camping and theres no worse thing then being wet and cold ! I bought one last year and the reason being is the tent can be put up in the pouring rain in minutes. The sleeping area is attached inside of the main tent so stays dry, you can unload your gear in the rest of the tent, change gear and still be dry. Oh and by the way you can also prepare your meals out of the elements. This POSER rides in all weather !
